Ever since his standout performance in Final Fantasy XVI, fans have been hooked on Ben Starr and so is he. In fact, in a video for TopMob, the voice actor chose to role-play an unusual move: dating exclusively his own character in the game by playing through Date Everything.
In a whimsical and humorous setting, this dating sim allows you to romantically interact with virtually anything, all thanks to enchanted eyeglasses known as Dateviators. These glasses turn ordinary household items into potential romantic interests, each with their unique backstories. A vast array of talented voice actors, including Ashly Burch, Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, Felicia Day, Steve Blum, Ashley Johnson, and Ray Chase from Final Fantasy XV, lend their voices to these characters. However, despite the numerous dateable objects, the self-proclaimed gaming egoist Starr has chosen to court himself only.
Starr portrays several characters in the story, including a personified door named Dorian. There are 17 distinct versions of Dorian located throughout the house. Among them is Front Dorian, who wears a small hat, Back Dorian, which Starr recorded speaking while facing away from the microphone with his hand covering his mouth, and Trap Dorian, who is less modestly dressed compared to the others.
The role in Date Everything is significantly less intense compared to Starr’s recent dramatic performances, such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 this year. However, he’s no stranger to embracing the odd and humorous, having put on costumes and makeup for the Balatro jester Jimbo in a trailer for the update of Balatro’s Friends of Jimbo 3, and also when accepting the game’s Bafta games award for best debut as a representative of developer Localthunk.
After its launch this month, the app Date Everything has been receiving mostly positive feedback from critics on Metacritic and an abundance of positive ratings from users on Steam.
