As I reflect upon Kathleen Finch’s extraordinary career, it’s impossible not to be awestruck by her incredible journey. Starting at the Food Network and transforming it into a cable powerhouse is no small feat! Her knack for developing captivating content and compelling talent has left an indelible mark on the television industry.
At the year’s end, Kathleen Finch, who leads Warner Bros. Discovery‘s U.S. networks, is planning to retire. Channing Dungey, currently the head of Warner Bros. Television group, has been appointed as her successor.
On Friday, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, praised Kathleen for her exceptional skills in creating engaging content, attracting talented personnel, and building meaningful lifestyle brands. He stated that during their collaboration at Discovery and the creation of Warner Bros. Discovery, she proved herself to be an unscripted powerhouse. Although he acknowledges her decision to retire, he will surely miss her, as will the entire company, which thrived under her exceptional teamwork and unique ability to understand audience preferences. Channing, a distinguished creative executive, has been chosen to take over due to her extensive expertise and experience in content development, platform programming, and network management.
Finch expressed: “I’ve been privileged to spend the last 25 years at Scripps, Discovery, and now Warner Bros. Discovery. My professional journey started at a budding Food Network, where I felt immense pride in contributing to its growth into a cable powerhouse. Then, leading teams that developed some of the most compelling unscripted series on HGTV and TLC, we transformed chefs and home renovators into household names, reflected societal trends with real-life narratives, and sparked cultural discussions. The aspect I’ll miss the most is collaborating with the fantastic individuals who make up this team. From David and throughout the organization to all the exceptional on-air talent, this group represents some of the sharpest minds and most innovative creators around. I am incredibly proud of what the US Networks group has achieved together, and I have no doubt that under Channing’s leadership, there will be many more victories in the future.”
