Warner Bros. Discovery is unifying its international teams responsible for acquiring streaming content under a single leadership headed by Royce Battleman, who has been elevated to the position of Executive Vice President for Global Content Acquisitions.
Previously serving as the head of U.S. content acquisitions for Max and Discovery+ under WBD’s networks, Battleman has been promoted to oversee global content acquisitions encompassing regions such as North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. She will now report directly to Joshua Walker, the chief financial and strategy officer of streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery.
According to WBD, “The merged team will be instrumental in designing the content strategies for both Max and Discovery+. This ensures that their content continues to be fresh, captivating, and enticing for viewers around the world.
Under Battleman’s supervision, executives in Global Streaming Content Acquisitions who are keeping their current positions include Ragnhild Thorbech (SVP Programming & Acquisitions for EMEA), Magdalene Ew (Head of Content for Streaming in APAC), Andres Mendoza (Head of Content Acquisitions & Programming for Premium & Streaming in LATAM, reporting to the LATAM business), Elizabeth Bannan and Tiffany Tulba (both Vice Presidents of Content Acquisition in the U.S.).
EbMaster has confirmed no roles will be eliminated as part of this realignment.
Setting up a global team enables us to effectively handle our international and multi-regional content partners, while also enhancing deal optimization across all regions,” Walker explained. “This organization will guarantee that our acquisitions align seamlessly with our global content strategy, planning, analysis, and financials for both Max and discovery+ platforms on a worldwide scale.
Initially, Battleman joined Warner Bros. Discovery, working within HBO’s business affairs department. In her latest role as head of U.S. Content Acquisitions, she successfully negotiated licensing agreements for Max with A24 and Warner Bros., managed the independent film licensing strategy for HBO, and finalized the deal to retain “Friends.” Furthermore, she played a crucial part in launching HBO Max in May 2020 and its rebranding to Max in 2023.
