Attention, Fellow Fans: The following conversation delves into revelations from the final episode of Season 3 of “The White Lotus,” currently available on Max. Enjoy!
Despite his best efforts to keep “The White Lotus” Season 3 finale a secret, Walton Goggins found the pressure unbearable. In an interview on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Goggins revealed that the build-up of tension over not disclosing Rick’s shootout and subsequent demise led him to act out the scene for his wife as a means of alleviating his anxiety.
Goggins described “White Lotus” finale as the cultural equivalent of the Super Bowl. He kept the surprise to himself and didn’t share it with anyone. Around three weeks ago, the anticipation was causing him so much stress that his wife was visiting him in Los Angeles. So, he decided to act out the last 30 minutes of the show for her, performing all the scenes on his own. He doesn’t have many lines in the show, after all.
When Meyers inquired whether Goggins was portraying multiple characters within the scene, Goggins chuckled and responded, “Only myself.” (or more casually: “Nah, just me.”)
Goggins expressed that his wife had urged him to fulfill this action, which he had kept hidden from her for a prolonged time. What proved therapeutic for him was seeing her cry and becoming emotionally involved in the people and the moment, realizing what Rick’s final moments meant. Accompanied by Chelsea while Rick was in his arms, Goggins felt that they would have walked together for an eternity.
In the final 30 minutes of “The White Lotus,” Rick’s desire for revenge tragically results in a gunfight, ultimately leading to his own demise and the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood). In an interview with EbMaster, Wood admitted that she unwittingly revealed the series finale to one of her closest friends.
Wood admitted that he unintentionally omitted scenes showing him injured or deceased in the footage, which included images of him covered in blood. His friend reacted with shock, stating that he had just witnessed a horrifying scene. Later, they watched the screening together, with his friend holding hands throughout the entire movie. The friend had to momentarily disengage due to the intense personal nature of the scenes featuring Wood’s character in Chelsea, as it was so emotionally resonant for him to watch Wood’s on-screen demise. Leslie [Bibb] expressed her unwillingness to watch the fatal scenes, opting not to view them.
