Voice Chat Could Be Coming To Dead by Daylight Soon, Leaks Suggest

As a seasoned survivor who has spent countless hours running for my digital life in Dead by Daylight, I must admit that the prospect of voice chat is both exhilarating and slightly terrifying. On one hand, the ability to coordinate strategies with teammates or taunt killers in real-time would certainly elevate the gameplay experience. However, as someone who has endured countless “WGTP” (workgroups taking play) and the occasional toxic player, I can’t help but worry about the potential for online mayhem that voice chat might unleash.

It’s possible that voice chat could be integrated into Dead by Daylight in the near future, hinted by recent leaks. According to a dataminer and leaker named LeaksbyDaylight on Twitter, voice chat files have been incorporated into the game following its latest update, which introduced Trevor Belmont from Castlevania as a survivor and Dracula as a killer.

In the newest Dead by Daylight update, Voice Chat functionality has been incorporated. At this point, there’s no definitive activation date, but Behaviour Interactive is actively developing it! #dbd #deadbydaylight #dbdleaks #leaksdbd #gaming #games #ps5 #xboxgamepass #horror

Despite discoveries of voice chat-related files within the game’s coding, these findings go against earlier statements from developers who asserted that they had no intention of incorporating a voice chat function in Dead by Daylight.

We currently don’t intend to incorporate voice chat, and on the matter of matchmaking, I want you to know that our team is working tirelessly to improve it. We acknowledge that the current situation can be very annoying.

As a gamer, I’m excitedly anticipating the potential inclusion of voice chat in upcoming game modes like 2v8, which is expected to return for a future update. This feature would enable killers to communicate verbally, allowing for more strategic coordination in a mode that demands swift decision-making. It also opens up opportunities for survivors to discuss their strategies, or even alert each other about an approaching killer when they’re close by.

Others argue that such a feature could enhance the game’s authenticity, providing enjoyment for players on either team.

From the get-go, it seemed like a no-brainer to incorporate voice chat into the game, given that we’re supposed to be surviving together. In such a challenging environment, it’s nearly impossible to imagine four people not communicating effectively with each other to increase our chances of survival.

Imagine proximity chat in DBD, that would give another dimension to the game and I love it

In Dead by Daylight, while voice chat might seem beneficial for enhancing gameplay for both survivors and killers, it also raises concerns. Some players worry that voice chat could make toxic behavior worse than what’s currently possible with text chat, and it might disrupt the game’s balance, which is based on restricted communication to create a fair playing field.

The absence of online toxicity in their platform up until now is a testament to their good decision-making. Introducing such features would likely result in one of their biggest missteps.

From a game balance perspective, it seems reasonable that DBD doesn’t include voice chat because the developers have primarily balanced the game around solo and duo queues since these modes account for the largest portion of the player base (as far as I recall from the statistics). However, I’d be delighted if voice chat was available for light-hearted moments with random players.

Instead, voice chat might only be available for custom games, enabling players to communicate exclusively with individuals they’ve specifically invited to their game room or have previously added as friends.

Opinions among Dead by Daylight players about incorporating voice chat are quite divided, but it appears that the developers might be leaning towards implementing this controversial feature into the game. However, Behaviour Interactive has not yet officially confirmed their intentions regarding adding voice chat, with all current information stemming from leaks and being subject to change.
