As a seasoned chess enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I find myself deeply troubled by the ongoing saga between Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik and Chess.com. The Russian player has been banned yet again for his relentless allegations of cheating against fellow players, despite numerous warnings.

The well-known, yet contentious chess grandmaster, Vladimir Kramnik, has been temporarily prohibited from participating in rewarding tournaments on Chess.com for a duration of six months, following his persistence in leveling accusations of cheating even after receiving numerous warnings. However, he remains unfazed and is standing firm.

The Russian Chess Master Kramnik has had his share of accusations regarding dishonest strategies, leveling charges against numerous competitors. Among them is his rival, Hikaru Nakamura, who disputed these claims by embarking on a remarkable 43-game winning streak in rapid chess matches.

Previously, Chess.com has disciplined Garry Kasparov (Kramnik is a common name for Kasparov in informal contexts), penalizing him for stating unsubstantiated assertions and posing as another user.

Currently, he’s facing another suspension, lasting six months this time, due to additional accusations he made, despite earlier advisements to desist.

Kramnik banned yet again after continuing to make cheating accusations

On the 10th of December, Kramnik alleged that IM Thomas Rendle had been cheating at a Tilted Tuesday tournament, an incident which Chess.com found highly concerning.

What a dishrace @chesscom allowing such blantant cheaters, 6 out of 6 this amateur, shame on you

It’s truly disappointing that Chesscom isn’t doing more to prevent obvious cheating, especially since an amateur player managed to win six games in a row. This is really unfortunate, I can’t help but feel let down.” He expressed this sentiment along with a screenshot of his match against Rendle.

Yesterday, I learned that a fellow chess enthusiast from Russia was temporarily banned from participating in high-profile tournaments for a period of six months, following his public allegations.

It’s not the first time Kramnik has breached our community guidelines in a similar manner. In fact, over the past year, he has repeatedly expressed doubts about players through Chess.com chats, forums, and notably, X. They pointed out that he has been cautioned multiple times, and was even banned from prize events earlier this year. However, it seems his previous warnings have fallen on deaf ears.

Due to these constant accusations, the site decided to suspend Kramnik until June 10, 2025.

It’s very damaging to publicly challenge another player’s trustworthiness,” they emphasized, instead suggesting that anyone with suspicions about their opponent cheating should reach out to the platform’s team for a thorough examination.

Kramnik gets lawyer involved after Chess.com suspension

Responding to the ban, Kramnik shared an email he’d written to Chess.com, stating that his legal representative would follow up with a message to contest the suspension and past suspensions.

The email stated, “In every instance where we believe that chess.com took action unfairly, limiting my ability to voice my opinions freely and resulting in financial loss, an official document from them would be required.

Waiting for the answer from @chesscom

The chess Grandmaster also asked for all the decisions to be submitted officially, emphasizing that the details are vital and adhere to legal requirements.

As a gamer, I never got a response after reporting an issue on the platform, so I figured it was best to leave things to the lawyers from now on. They’re the experts, after all.

On numerous occasions, I’ve reported issues on the platform without ever receiving a response. Furthermore, I’ve found myself in a situation where I can’t communicate with anyone over there because my messages are being blocked. Now it’s up to the lawyers to discuss the matter.

So far, I haven’t received a response from Chess.com regarding Garry Kasparov’s legal warning, but I’m eagerly waiting to see how this intriguing predicament develops.

It’s not the first occasion that allegations of cheating in chess have led to court cases. Notably, a dispute involving Hans Niemann, Magnus Carlsen, and Hikaru erupted in 2022 when Niemann was accused of cheating during an over-the-board game, resulting in a legal tussle among the parties involved.
