VisionQuest’s ‘Sentimental’ Father & Son Plot Revealed by Report

The new Disney+ series VisionQuest, from Marvel Studios, will focus on surprisingly heartfelt themes of family, according to recent reports. As the final installment in the WandaVision trilogy, set to release this fall, the show will offer more than just visual effects and action.

VisionQuest rumor reveals its AI-human story with ‘sentimental’ plot

In a recent Discord question-and-answer session, Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus discussed upcoming Marvel Studios projects, including the highly awaited VisionQuest. When asked about the story, Perez described it as a moving tale of an AI’s journey to become more human, but also emphasized its emotional core, saying it’s “really a story of fathers and sons.”

Details about the VisionQuest storyline match what viewers saw in the exclusive trailer shown at New York Comic-Con 2025. The trailer apparently featured Paul Bettany as Vision exploring a bizarre digital world and connecting with different Stark AI programs, including Ultron, voiced again by James Spader.

The relationship between Vision and Ultron seems to be a key part of the story. The trailer for the New York Comic Con highlighted their connection, with Ultron referring to Vision as a haunting presence and mentioning his complicated origins. We also see Ultron playfully acknowledge Vision’s son, Tommy Maximoff (played by Ruaridh Mollica), while they watch him together, jokingly saying, “Congratulations! It’s a boy!”

Terry Matalas, the showrunner, revealed that Robert Downey Jr.’s Ultron and J.A.R.V.I.S. (voiced by James Spader and Paul Bettany respectively) will have a central relationship in the VisionQuest series. He also teased that fans will finally see a live-action version of Ultron after a ten-year absence.

The series will also star Todd Stashwick as Paladin, a dangerous assassin tasked with tracking down Vision and the valuable technology he has as Vision tries to recover his memories and become human again.

Production on VisionQuest ran from March to July 2025, with the release date yet to be announced.
