As a fervent admirer of Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio, I eagerly anticipate his MCU character’s desires for the future. Yet, it appears that the wish he subtly hinted at may remain unfulfilled. So far, my beloved MCU antagonist has been confined to television, making appearances in Daredevil, Hawkeye, Echo, and Daredevil: Born Again.
D’Onofrio shared that his top desire for his portrayal of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin is to feature in a Marvel Studios film. Previously, the seasoned actor was spotted in the superhero-filled cinematic universe, sparring with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock in “Daredevil: Born Again,” but it appears he aims for something that might remain elusive.
Actor from “Kingpin” expressed his aspirations and plans for the character through a post on his personal account, specifically mentioning the future direction of the red brand. When questioned about it, D’Onofrio mentioned he wants to explore the character in a cinematic setting: “[I want] to bring him to the movies.
As a dedicated cinephile, I must say that Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Wilson Fisk is nothing short of breathtaking. If given the chance to delve deeper into this character, there’s one thing I’d love to explore: his journey towards redemption. Could we see a future where Fisk confronts his dark past and finds a way to make amends for his transgressions, ultimately transforming from Kingpin to a figure of hope and salvation?
A: “Take him to the movies.”
Regrettably, as D’Onofrio disclosed earlier, it seems highly unlikely that his Daredevil villain will appear in an MCU film because of the complex ownership issues surrounding the character. The Kingpin actor explained that the problem stems from Marvel Studios not having the rights to Wilson Fisk/Kingpin on the big screen, as these are shared between Marvel and Sony.
In the upcoming season 2 of “Daredevil: Born Again,” Vincent D’Onofrio’s character Fisk will be seen again, sharing screen time with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock on the TV side of Marvel Studios.
In the second season of the adult-oriented Disney+ show, events continue from where they ended in the first, with Fisk assuming the role of New York City’s mayor and initiating a war against the city’s vigilantes through the creation of his Anti-Vigilante Task Force.
Marvel And Sony Need To Figure Out Their Kingpin Problem
Just as they worked together for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Marvel and Sony should collaborate again, reach an agreement, and make it possible for Vincent D’Onofrio to realize his desire of appearing in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
For a long time, fans have been eager for D’Onofrio to showcase his skills on the big screen in the extended universe of superhero movies.
It’s been exciting watching the actor/character take over television screens with his roles in various Marvel Studios productions. However, facing off against one of the franchise’s most prominent characters on the big screen would offer a completely new and unique experience.
Due to his continuous screen presence and complications related to another character’s rights, it appears that Kingpin/Wilson Fisk will not have the opportunity to engage with the MCU’s Spider-Man, despite their extensive fighting history in the Marvel Comics world.
Fans are eagerly waiting for a more down-to-earth Spider-Man tale within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly following the multiverse events in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. The Kingpin could serve as an ideal street-level story to refresh Spider-Man fans from his recent/upcoming adventures involving reality jumping.
However, even though D’Onofrio wants it, because of rights, it cannot be done.
If Marvel Cinematic Universe leaders don’t negotiate with Sony Pictures executives, it might not be possible for popular characters like Spider-Man to appear in future MCU films. Learn more about the Marvel Studios and Sony Spider-Man agreement here.
