As a cinephile with a penchant for behind-the-scenes tales and a soft spot for the world of professional wrestling, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Netflix docuseries, “Mr. McMahon.” With Chris Smith, the mastermind behind “Tiger King,” at the helm, this six-episode deep dive into the life of Vince McMahon promises to be a rollercoaster ride that will leave no stone unturned.
The Netflix docuseries on former WWE boss Vince McMahon has set its premiere date.
On September 25, the show titled “Mr. McMahon” is set to premiere. This enthralling series spans across six one-hour installments. As per the official description, the plot follows:
“The series titled ‘Mr. McMahon’ delves into the journey of Vince McMahon, a contentious business magnate and co-founder of WWE. It traces his evolution of the WWE from a modest regional venture to a dominant force in global entertainment, as well as his tumultuous downfall due to serious sexual misconduct charges that ultimately resulted in his resignation. This six-part documentary offers an in-depth exploration of McMahon’s life and the enduring influence of his franchise. It is based on over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon himself (before his resignation), his relatives, associates, legendary wrestling figures, journalists who exposed the allegations, and is brought to you by Chris Smith, director of ‘Tiger King’, and Bill Simmons from ’30 for 30′, providing an uncompromising, candid portrayal of one of sports entertainment’s most elusive characters.”

The docuseries was initially unveiled back in October 2020. However, less than two years later, McMahon declared his retirement from WWE amid an investigation into accusations of misconduct by the WWE board. In early 2023, he made a surprising comeback to the company to discuss its sale, which ultimately occurred when Endeavor purchased WWE and merged it with UFC under the TKO Group name. After this, McMahon stepped down from the TKO board following a lawsuit filed by a former employee who accused him of sexual abuse and trafficking her to other men.
“Chris Smith, the director and producer, explained that ‘Mr. McMahon’ aimed to unveil the real Vince McMahon, who had been hidden beneath his public persona. Over the span of four years while filming, the narrative took unexpected and astonishing turns, eventually leading to serious accusations. The end result is a gripping documentary that we believe provides an insightful and multidimensional depiction of the man and the intricate legacy he created.”
In addition to Smith, the duo of Bill Simmons and Zara Duffy also function as executive producers for the show titled “Mr. McMahon”. This production is a joint venture between Library Films and Ringer Films.
