Video Game Layoffs Sadly Continue With More Cuts At Ubisoft

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness and concern every time I hear about layoffs within the gaming industry, especially when it comes to esteemed studios like Ubisoft San Francisco and Red Storm.

As a long-time gaming enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the creative minds behind some of my favorite video games, I find it disheartening to see yet another wave of layoffs within the industry. Having worked in the tech sector myself, I understand the challenges that come with the ever-evolving landscape and the need for companies to adapt and streamline operations. However, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness when talented individuals lose their jobs, especially those who have dedicated years to crafting immersive worlds and compelling narratives.

Representatives from Ubisoft have shared with Bloomberg that they had to make a challenging but essential move, which involved reducing staff numbers. This action was taken so as to adjust the teams in their studios according to their strategic business and development plans for the future.

Affected employees will receive severance pay and job placement assistance. In April of this year, Ubisoft made reductions in various departments. TopMob has reached out to Ubisoft for further information regarding these layoffs.

It seems the job reductions at Ubisoft are part of a long-term strategy aimed at lowering expenses, boost profits, and satisfy shareholders. Over 1,000 positions have been affected by these reductions at the company.

Back in 2009, Ubisoft San Francisco was established with approximately 500 team members. However, there has been a recent downsizing. The office encompasses several job sectors such as marketing, sales, business expansion, public relations, finance, licensing, artistic and creative departments, and game development.

Ubisoft San Francisco, known for developing both the Rocksmith series and South Park: The Fractured But Whole, is currently focusing on maintaining the Rocksmith franchise and XDefiant.

Simultaneously, the team stationed in Cary, North Carolina goes by the name Red Storm. Established in 1996 by renowned author Tom Clancy, this team is particularly famous for its contributions to the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six series. Prior to a recent cancellation earlier this year, they had been working on The Division: Heartland project.
