‘Very Important People’ Host Vic Michaelis Adds Quinta Brunson, Patti LuPone and Elaine Carroll to Guest Wishlist as Season 2 Hits Dropout

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for quirky comedies and a deep appreciation for CollegeHumor productions, I eagerly anticipate the second season of Dropout’s “Very Important People.” Having followed the series since its inception, I can’t help but feel like an insider who’s been given exclusive access to the inner workings of a secret comedy club.

Dropout’s “Key Characters” boasts an impressive lineup of guest stars for Season 2. This stellar cast includes Anna Garcia from “Superstore,” who takes on the role of “Zeke Aaron McKinley,” a fourth-grader mysteriously transformed into a rock formation following a magical wish. Additionally, comedians such as Nicole Byer, Chris Redd, Bobby Moynihan, John Early, Kate Berlant, Paul F. Tompkins, Echo Kellum, Lisa Gilroy, and Danielle Pinnock are all set to make appearances throughout the season.

The basic concept of the humorous talk show, originating from the team previously known as CollegeHumor and hosted by Vic Michaelis, is straightforward. It begins as a conversation between Michaelis and his guest, who must create a character to portray during the interview within five minutes, following a surprise makeover.

As a passionate movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the captivating return of “Dropout” Season 2, graced by the presence of several esteemed VIP guests, including the talented Garcia and fellow stars from the previous season such as Byer, Moynihan, and Tompkins. Yet, what truly piques my curiosity is the tantalizing list of potential dream guest stars for future seasons, spearheaded by none other than Quinta Brunson, Patti LuPone, comedian Elaine Carroll, and Dropout CEO, Sam Reich – who happens to be married to the hilarious Ms. Carrol. The prospect of their appearances promises an even more enthralling journey through the world of “Dropout.

As a die-hard fan, I’d leap at the chance if Quinta ever decides to return for another season of “Agatha All Along”. And oh boy, if Patti LuPone fancies a guest spot, she needn’t play a character – just strut onto set and give me a good, hard slap. I’d embrace it wholeheartedly, and we’d be more than happy to compensate her generously for that priceless moment.

Michaelis is keen on inviting host Reich (who is known for his shows “Game Changer” and “Make Some Noise,” as well as running Dropout) onto the show; however, it’s not just Reich that captures Michaelis’ attention – he is particularly intrigued by Reich’s spouse. In fact, Elaine, who starred in the CollegeHumor series “Very Mary-Kate,” was the first comedic act that grabbed Michaelis’ interest. He recalls thinking, “I want to do that! That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.” Growing up, he admired the content Elaine produced and considers her his dream cast member. Furthermore, among other A-list celebrities, she is the one Michaelis hopes will someday occupy the spotlight.

Of course, Michaelis also hopes to cast as many of their friends “as humanely possible.”

Michaelis shared that one aspect he greatly enjoys about the show is utilizing it as a stage to display his friends, whom he believes are absolutely hilarious. He gets to witness their success in making audiences laugh nearly every night of the week. Seeing their talent showcased on this platform and observing fans’ excitement weekly as they await these friends’ appearances, greatly impacts Michaelis positively as an individual.

In “Very Important People,” Michaelis portrays a character who appears somewhat reluctant, as if they’d rather be somewhere else. However, this character undergoes a change in Season 2, mirroring the real show’s win of a Webby Award. This significant achievement is expected to have a noticeable impact on the show’s set, according to Michaelis.

In the first series, the character of host ‘Vic’ initially appeared as someone who felt above the nature of their access-cable-but-more-online-web-show. Michaelis explained that Vic viewed themselves as destined for real news anchoring and believed they should be on a genuine news platform. However, due to being stuck in this show, they were striving diligently to provide challenging interviews to the onscreen characters, hoping it would eventually lead them to their next opportunity. During the off-season, we managed to win a People’s Voice Webby Award, which has since played a significant role in this new season.

Since Vic, the show’s host who has gained acclaim as a news personality, now finds themselves unexpectedly in a predicament they never wished for, this is the circumstance that our fictional character finds themselves in at the start of Season 2, Michaelis explained.

Michaelis explained that they seem to be taking a significant risk, as they now feel they have valuable opportunities at stake. This could be their chance to move up in the media world, which they see as a positive career development. However, their personal life appears to be struggling significantly. They’re juggling professional success with personal difficulties, all while maintaining their roles as interviewers. It’s a complex and challenging situation for them, to say the least.

In the opening episode of Season 2, the initial interviewee Michaelis speaks with is Zeke Aaron McKinley, portrayed by Garcia, who was transformed into a rock structure after making a wish in the fourth grade. Michaelis found this guest to be particularly fitting for “VIP,” as he put it.

Michaelis stated, “When Zeke initially appeared – I believe Anna wasn’t around on set that day – I reacted by huddling up and losing my ability to stand straight,” he shared. “There’s a clip where I huddled up, I was trembling and weeping, I was laughing so much. It took nearly a minute before we could settle into the chairs for our conversation. I was completely overwhelmed. And it was ideal. It’s just so pure. That’s what you hope to see in a character. Of course, when you gaze at that rock structure, you think, ‘That’s a fourth grader who discovered a lamp and made a wish, and the third wish they made was rocks. Yes, absolutely.’ There’s no other explanation it could have. It’s so uncomplicated. It’s perfect. It’s maddeningly perfect. It’s simple, it’s beautiful.
