Venice Prizewinner, Italy’s Oscar Entry ‘Vermiglio’ Sells to Major Territories for Charades (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned film critic who has traversed the cinematic landscapes of the world, I must say that “Vermiglio” is a masterpiece that has left me spellbound. Having spent years delving into the intricacies of human emotions portrayed on the silver screen, I can confidently assert that this film stands out as a testament to the raw power of storytelling.

The Paris-based sales firm, Charades, has secured agreements with distributors across significant regions for “Vermiglio,” the film by Maura Delpero that recently received Venice’s Silver Lion Award and is now Italy’s pick for their Oscars submission.

The critically acclaimed movie was purchased by Sideshow and Janus Films for U.S. distribution rights after its North American debut at Toronto, and has since been sold by Charades for the UK (Modern), Australia/New Zealand (Madman), Spain (Karma Films), Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), Greece (Weird Wave), Israel (Lev Cinema), Lebanon and Gulf regions (Moving Turtle), former Soviet Union countries (Exponenta), Bulgaria (MCF Megacom Film), Hungary (Mozinet Ltd), Poland (Gutek Film LTD), French-speaking Africa (Moving Turtle) and Indonesia (Falcon) for distribution.

The film titled “Vermiglio” is set to be distributed in France (by Paname Distribution), the Benelux region (through O’Brother), and Italy, where Lucky Red had a limited release on September 19 and plans to expand starting this weekend. Charades is currently working on securing distribution deals for Latin America and Scandinavia.

As a cinephile immersed in post-World War II era, I found myself transported to a serene Alpine hamlet, where the tranquility was shattered by the appearance of a soldier. This unexpected arrival stirred up the intricate relationships among three sisters, weaving an engaging tale against the backdrop of picturesque mountains.

The movie has received universal acclaim, with EbMaster calling it “subtly awe-inspiring.” As it delves into intricate details of decor, textiles, and even a dairy cow’s hide, it expands into an epic portrayal of daily life in the Italian Alps’ rural landscapes.

Delpero first appeared on screen with the film “Maternal”, a story centered on a shelter for young mothers in Argentina, managed by nuns.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m excited to share that “Vermiglio” was a collaborative effort between Cinedora, RAI Cinema, and two other esteemed production houses – Charades Production and Versus Production. Additionally, we had the privilege of Anonymous Content joining us in this production endeavor.
