As a seasoned cinephile who has traversed the cinematic landscapes of various cultures and eras, I find myself drawn to the captivating synopsis of “Vermiglio.” The film’s setting amidst the Italian Alps during World War II, coupled with its poignant tale of love and fate, is a potent combination that promises an immersive and emotionally resonant experience.
Content Anonymous has teamed up with the Paris-based production company Charades for the sale of “Vermiglio,” an Italian dramatic film directed by Maura Delpero (“Maternal”) which will be competing at the Venice Film Festival.
In partnership, AC Independent, a sector under AC Studios, and Charades, will jointly manage the rights for North America. All international sales will be overseen by Charades.
The Italian movie is jointly produced by Cinedora, along with Rai Cinema from Italy, Charades Productions based in France, and Versus Production hailing from Belgium.
The movie unfolds in Vermiglio, a picturesque Alpine village nestled high in the Italian mountains. In 1944, as World War II casts a shadow over the horizon, the peaceful life of a local teacher’s family is disrupted by the arrival of Pietro, a soldier seeking refuge. This unexpected guest sets off a chain of events that forever alters their lives. As the seasons pass, marking the end of the war, Pietro and Lucia, the eldest daughter of the teacher, find themselves falling in love and getting married. Their union leads them down an unforeseen path. With the world beginning to heal from its wounds, the family must confront their own trials.
After its debut in Venice, the film “Vermiglio” is set to make its North American first appearance in the special presentations segment of the Toronto Film Festival.
The film features actors such as Tommaso Ragno (from “Nostalgia”), Giuseppe de Domenico (from “Zero Zero Zero”), Martina Scrinzi, Roberta Rovelli (from “The Tearsmith”), and Tommaso Ragno (from “No Activity: Nothing to Declare”) along with others.
Previously, AC Independent has collaborated with Charades for sales on various titles such as the animated surf-themed film “In Waves”, the politically-charged thriller “Upon Entry”, Richard Peppiatt’s Sundance hit “Kneecap”, contemporary thriller “Override” and the genre-bending thriller “The Universal Theory”.
“Vermiglio” was backed by the IDM South Tyrol Film Commission, Trentino Film Commission, the Italian Ministry of Culture, Eurimages, CNC – World Cinema Fund, Ile de France region, Paname Distribution, and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Films financed and distributed by AC Independent, such as “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon,” the U.K. version of A24’s “Talk to Me,” Einar Film’s horror film “Handling the Undead” from Norway, and the animated film “The Boy and the Heron,” which won a Golden Globe, are among the recent releases. Future projects include Alex Gibney’s “Musk,” Nathan Silver’s upcoming comedy “Between the Temples” (scheduled for release on Aug 23 in theaters), the political thriller “War Game” (also scheduled for release on Aug 9), Raoul Peck’s “Orwell,” Penny Lane’s “Mrs. America,” Elizabeth Lo’s “Mistress Dispeller,” and several others.
