Venice Film Festival Says Ciao to Joker: Folie à Deux

As a film enthusiast with a passion for discovering new talents and unique perspectives, I have had the privilege of witnessing a diverse range of short films at various international film festivals. The Horizons section of this year’s festival has particularly piqued my interest, showcasing an impressive lineup of films that explore themes of family, identity, love, and loss.

Lady Gaga is returning home with her new movie, “Joker: Folie a Deux.” Instead of playing the idolizing girlfriend to a male leading star in this musical production, she’s premiering at the Venice Film Festival. This isn’t a repeat of her 2018 film debut, “A Star Is Born,” but a return to a successful formula after one setback. Gaga shines as always.

The Venice Film Festival revealed its complete lineup on July 23. Among the films scheduled to be screened are Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated second release of the year, “Queer,” featuring Daniel Craig; Pablo Larraín’s third major biopic, “Maria,” starring Angelina Jolie; and Pedro Almodóvar’s first movie in English, titled “The Room Next Door.” Here is a list of all the films making their way to Venice by gondola:

I’ve followed a unique anthology series called “Out of Competition.” In the beginning, Alfonso Cuarón introduced us to the Disclaimer (Chapters 1-7). Then Rodrigo Sorogoyen del Amo, Sandra Romero, and David Martín de los Santos took over for Los años nuevos (The New Years) in episodes 1-10. Next, Thomas Vinterberg led us through Familier som vores (Families Like Ours) in episodes 1-7. Lastly, Joe Wright helmed M – Il figlio del secolo (M – Son of the Century) for episodes 1-8.
