Venice-Bound Documentary ‘Possibility of Paradise’ Picked Up by Taskovski (EXCLUSIVE)

As a supporter of thought-provoking and enlightening documentaries, I am absolutely thrilled about Mladen Kovačević’s latest work, “Possibility of Paradise.” Having previously been captivated by his unique cinematic vision in films like “Unplugged,” “Wall of Death and All That,” and “Merry Christmas, Yiwu,” I am eager to witness the masterful exploration he brings to this new project.

As a passionate movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve got some exciting news! Taskovski Films Sales has acquired the distribution rights for Mladen Kovačević’s captivating documentary titled “Possibility of Paradise.” This masterpiece will make its grand debut on September 3 at Venice Days, a vibrant independent section of the esteemed Venice Film Festival. I can hardly wait to immerse myself in this Serbian filmmaker’s unique perspective on the world!

The movie, filmed on Bali, explores characters seeking a modern Eden. As stated by Venice Days, “the blend of joy and deep-rooted questions about life’s purpose and moral dilemmas are central themes in the film.” They further describe it as a “daring portrayal, delicately expressed, of what it signifies to inhabit a terrestrial paradise that isn’t ours culturally speaking.”

Irena Taskovski, the CEO and chief acquisition officer at Taskovski Films, stated: “Mladen’s distinct cinematic style and the movie’s exceptional visual storytelling offer a profoundly reflective journey for many viewers.”

The movie was created by Iva Plemić Divjak and Kovačević, through Horopter Film Production in Serbia. Alongside this, MDEMC Produktion from Sweden contributed to its production as well. It received backing from the Film Centre Serbia, Serbia’s Ministry of Culture, and the Swedish Film Institute.

Previously, Kovačević has been the director of “Unplugged” (2013) – a film that was screened at Hot Docs and Visions du Réel; “Wall of Death and All That” (2016), which was showcased at Visions du Réel; “4 Years in 10 Minutes” (2018), which earned a special mention from the jury at Visions du Réel; “Merry Christmas, Yiwu” (2020), a film that premiered at Rotterdam and won best documentary at Sarajevo; and most recently, “Another Spring” (2022), which made its debut at Karlovy Vary.

At present, I’m immersed in bringing “Koryo” to life on screen – a captivating blend of documentary and fiction. Simultaneously, I’m also nurturing the concept for my next project, a fully-fledged feature film titled “Behind the Curtains, Behind the Trees.”
