As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say, the shift in location for VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 from Tokyo to Jakarta has left me somewhat perplexed, yet intrigued. Having visited both cities and played Valorant in countless tournaments across Japan, I was looking forward to experiencing the electric atmosphere of Tokyo once again. But alas, life as a gamer often involves navigating unexpected changes, and I’m ready to embrace this new challenge.
The VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 tournament, initially planned for Tokyo, Japan, has been relocated to Jakarta, Indonesia due to manufacturing delays and worries about the event’s quality. Additionally, according to an official statement by Riot Games, the revised dates for the event will be from September 20th to the 29th.
In our ecosystem, Ascension serves a pivotal function as the peak level in the career progression path, acting as the entrance to the VCT International Tournaments. Following numerous fruitless attempts at finding a resolution, we’ve decided to make a challenging move and change the location this year from Japan.

Instead, Riot is planning to compensate for the move by organizing live watch parties in Japan, and they’ll announce more information about these events shortly.
As someone who has spent countless hours watching esports tournaments, I must say that I am thrilled about the changes made to VCT Ascension Pacific. In the past, navigating through the Group Stage and then the single elimination bracket in Playoffs was often confusing and time-consuming. However, the decision to switch to a 10 team double elimination bracket is a breath of fresh air. This format allows for more teams to have a fair shot at advancing, and it makes it easier for fans like me to follow along and understand the progression of the tournament. I believe that this change will make the viewing experience much more enjoyable and engaging, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out in practice.
