As a long-time League of Legends player, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia every time I watch Vars’ videos about removed abilities in our beloved game. In this latest episode, he dives into some truly fascinating and unique abilities that no longer exist in the current version of League, such as Zyra’s Death Passive, Swain’s Ravenous Flock, Urgot’s Q and E, and Tristana’s Explosive Shot.
As a long-time League of Legends player, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia every time I hear Vars talk about removed abilities in the game. His latest video brought back memories of the old Zyra passive that used to terrify junglers and mid laners alike, and Urgot’s Q and E that added so much depth and complexity to his kit.

Key Takeaways:
- Zyra’s old passive, Death Passive, transformed her into a ballista and allowed her to deal true damage to enemies.
- Swain’s old ultimate, Ravenous Flock, sent ravens to nearby enemies, damaging them and healing Swain.
- Urgot’s Q and E, Acid Hunter and Corrosive Charge, turned his basic attacks into powerful poke tools.
- Tristana’s old E, Explosive Shot, did magic damage and applied Grievous Wounds, but didn’t synergize with her physical damage-focused kit.
Zyra’s Death Passive: A Scary Transformation
Zyra’s previous passive ability, named Death Passive, made her turn into a ballista when receiving a lethal blow. During the following 8 seconds, she had the power to shoot out a virus-infused projectile that inflicted genuine damage on all adversaries. Though this passive didn’t align perfectly with Zyra’s role as a control mage, it introduced an aspect of trepidation and enabled her to exit the battlefield with a bang.
Swain’s Ravenous Flock: The Ultimate Area Control
Swain’s former powerful ability, Ravenous Flock, dispatched crows towards adversaries, inflicting harm and restoring Swain. This skill granted Swain impressive crowd control and enabled him to endure battles. Although his current ultimate is more potent, there was a unique charm to the old Ravenous Flock.
Urgot’s Acid Hunter and Corrosive Charge: Long-Range Poke
As a gamer, I can tell you that Urgot’s Q and E abilities, named Acid Hunter and Corrosive Charge respectively, transformed my basic attacks into effective long-range poking tools. With Acid Hunter, I could fire a missile in a straight line, dealing damage similar to an auto-attack. But with Corrosive Charge, I was able to upgrade Acid Hunter, extending its range and turning it into a simple point-and-click skillshot. This fantastic duo enabled me to keep enemies at bay and gradually wear them down from a comfortable distance.
Tristana’s Explosive Shot: A Strange Ability
Tristana’s former skill, Explosive Shot, was an unusual ability for her as it scaled with AP rather than her usual focus on dealing physical damage. Despite being recognized for her destructive physical abilities, this magic damage-dealing skill also inflicted Grievous Wounds. However, it didn’t align well with Tristana’s gameplay and was subsequently swapped out for a more effective replacement.
