Variety Entertainment & Technology Summit Explores the Impact of AI on Film, TV and More

As a seasoned industry professional with decades of experience under my belt, I am absolutely thrilled about the EbMaster’s Entertainment and Technology Summit! The lineup of speakers is nothing short of extraordinary, with industry titans like Eli Collins from Google DeepMind and Annie Luo from Peacock gracing us with their insights.

On September 26th, the Entertainment and Technology Summit organized by EbMaster is set to unfold. This summit will bring together influential figures from various sectors who will delve into how rapidly evolving technology is shaping television, cinema, gaming, music, digital media, and consumer brands. The one-day event, sponsored by City National Bank, will take place at The London West Hollywood.

One of the attendees is Eli Collins, Vice President of Product Management at Google DeepMind, who will participate in a discussion labeled “Generative AI – Navigating with the Genie Out of the Bottle.” He explains how advancements such as the Transformer have laid the groundwork for today’s surge in Generative AI, serving as the backbone for current image, video, and other AI models that are shaking up the industry.

Collins mentions that we’re approaching an era where AI will function as a creative partner. Think of a movie that adjusts its tone and speed based on your emotions, or a music playlist that adapts to your preferences as the day progresses. With many of us carrying video cameras in our pockets all day, consider the narratives you could weave when AI allows you to modify footage however you desire.

At the “Improving the Art of Streaming” discussion, Annie Luo, who serves as Executive Vice President for Global Partnerships and Strategic Development at Peacock, will be participating. Her team is dedicated to creating groundbreaking partnerships, and they point to Peacock’s collaborations with InstaCart and JetBlue as significant milestones in this area.

Luo explains how the streamer is expanding into virtual and mixed reality collaborations with Meta. “An increasingly significant aspect of our creative enterprise is virtual and mixed reality, partnering with companies like Meta,” she states. “We’ve signed a multi-year contract that sees Peacock and renowned NBCUniversal intellectual properties integrated across various Meta Reality Labs platforms, such as Horizon Worlds and Oculus Quest headsets. This move enables us to experiment with our IP and attract new, younger audiences.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, known for his roles in “Modern Family” and host of “Dinner’s on Me,” will share insights at the “Podcast All-Stars” panel. He discusses strategies to promote his podcast by interacting with fans and encouraging discussions with guests via social media. According to Ferguson, this approach allows listeners to not only hear but also see the bond between him and his guests in the episodes, as each episode is uniquely marketed on social media.

This year’s keynote speakers are Channing Dungey from Warner Bros. TV and Peter Safran from DC Studios. They will discuss the impact of technological advancements on the entertainment industry, sharing their insights. Additionally, Pinterest Chief Creative Officer Malik Ducard and NBCUniversal president Lisa Katz will be part of the “Entertainment Content Visionaries” panel, where they will propose innovative strategies for creating content that resonates with audiences.

Erin Oremland, AgilLink’s General Manager and SVP, as well as Head of Ecosystem Delivery, will participate in a discussion titled “Advancing Financial Operations in an Uncertain Media Marketplace.” In another panel named “Power Couple: Entrepreneurship + Entertainment,” industry leaders will share their strategies for generating new, innovative ideas to boost growth.

At the “Expedia Group Brands: Boosting Digital Creators and Commerce” discussion, Lauri Metrose from Expedia Group presents a pioneering project in the travel sector, working alongside influencer Caroline Baudino. Meanwhile, during the “Marketer Revolution – Experts of Multi-Platform Storytelling,” key figures share their tactics for compelling storytelling across various mediums like outdoor advertising, digital media, television, print publications, and merchandising.

Tim O’Brien, Chief Revenue Officer at Scopely, discusses major transactions and mergers that have reshaped both conventional entertainment and the gaming sector in the panel titled “Revolutionary Deals: Game Changers.” This is followed by a panel named “Constructing Cultural Links in the Era of Global Streaming Entertainment,” where Amazon leaders from various entertainment services and divisions will share insights on how the streaming media environment can facilitate audience diversity while fostering equity.
