Valve’s Steam Controller already being scalped for 3x price

The new Steam Controller was a huge hit, selling out in less than 30 minutes and even causing temporary issues with the Steam platform. Now, people are reselling those sold-out controllers on eBay for significantly inflated prices.

It’s become very common to see highly sought-after items – like new Pokémon trading cards, popular game accessories, the latest game consoles, or new technology – sell out immediately and then reappear online for much higher prices, sometimes ten times the original cost.

The new Steam Controller quickly sold out after going on presale, causing the website to crash and leaving many people unable to purchase one. Shortly after, numerous controllers appeared on eBay being sold for almost three times the retail price.

Steam Controller listed for nearly 3x the price by scalpers

Used Steam Controllers from the second generation are selling for surprisingly high prices online. On sites like eBay, they’re listed between $215 and $399, which is a significant increase considering the controller originally sold for $99 and was just recently available for pre-order.

Even with scalpers listing items at inflated prices, fans have been actively fighting back. Many are reporting these overpriced listings to eBay, and some have successfully had them removed. Others are simply warning fellow fans to steer clear of these listings.

Plus, these listings are for pre-orders, so the controllers haven’t even been shipped to customers yet.

As of today, the Steam Controller is still unavailable on the Steam store, and honestly, I’m still waiting to hear when they’ll have more in stock. It’s a little frustrating, but I’m hoping they’ll restock soon!
