Valve reveals desktop gaming PC alongside new Steam controller & VR headset

Valve revealed three new products today: the Steam Machine, a new Steam Frame VR headset, and an updated Steam Controller.

Following the popularity of the Steam Deck, many gamers have hoped Valve would create new devices, particularly a more powerful handheld console. On Wednesday, November 12th, Valve unexpectedly revealed a new range of hardware instead.

Valve is releasing several new products: the Steam Frame VR headset, a redesigned Steam Controller, and a new version of the Steam Machine. The Steam Machine is a gaming PC concept Valve first explored years ago when they aimed to bring PC gaming into the living room.

According to Valve, the new Steam Machine delivers “six times” the power of the Steam Deck, powered by an undisclosed AMD CPU and GPU capable of running games at 4K and 60fps. It will ship in 512GB and 2TB models, both expandable via MicroSD.

The system includes built-in wireless support for the new Steam Controller, a modernized version of the original design featuring dual touchpads positioned beneath the joysticks.

Valve also unveiled the Steam Frame, which is a standalone VR headset that supports the entire Steam library, including both VR and traditional titles. The headset can be used with its own motion controllers or paired with the new Steam Controller.

These are Valve’s first new hardware releases since the Steam Deck, and they all use SteamOS. This shows Valve is continuing to develop its gaming platform based on Linux.

We don’t have pricing or release dates yet, but these three products are anticipated to be available in 2026.
