Valve Finally Fixes Team Fortress 2 Bug After 17 Years. Fans Will Have to Get Used to „New” Scout

As a long-time fan of Team Fortress 2, I find myself both amused and slightly bewildered by the recent frenzy over Valve’s decision to finally change Scout’s pants color after 17 years. It’s a testament to the game’s enduring appeal that such a trivial matter can generate this level of excitement among the community.

It’s quite obvious – the recent advancements in Team Fortress 2, if you can even call them that, are not up to the mark compared to regular live-service games. The excitement among Valve’s shooter enthusiasts for new content is evidently high, as shown by the highly enthusiastic response to the resolution of a bug that has been present in the game since its launch.

As a gamer, I find myself immersed in the thrilling world of Team Fortress 2, where no team boundaries hinder my gaming experience. This means that there’s an endless influx of spies or even spycrabs on public servers, turning every match into a chaotic spectacle. The game cleverly differentiates between teams not just by colors (mainly blue and red), but also through subtle variations in shades. It adds an interesting layer to the gameplay, as I navigate through the battlefield, constantly on the lookout for my teammates and enemies alike.

Initially, an error led one team on the blue side to don incorrect attire. Interestingly enough, 17 years following the debut of Team Fortress 2, Valve has only recently rectified… the Scout’s pants color. Up until now, the chatty/pesky Bostonian from the “blue” team had been sporting the same trousers as his “red” counterpart. Although fans were aware of this for quite some time, it wasn’t until now that the PC version was updated to correct this issue (allegedly, the PS3 version didn’t have this flaw).

Certainly, it’s a minor issue when considering all the various cosmetic items, texture adjustments, hats, pets, and more. However, fans are both playfully and genuinely enthusiastic about the “character design update” following 17 years (as shared on X or Reddit). Some players might feel disoriented by the “revised” color palette, and it may take a while for others to grow accustomed to this modification.

Some online users argue that Valve overlooked another blue scout character, specifically the mechanical one from Mann vs Machine mode and its related cosmetic item, which retains red shorts. It’s also noted that there are numerous other visual inconsistencies in the game. Hopefully, these issues will be addressed in the future, perhaps even sooner than 17 more years.
