Valve blocked CS mod launch on release day. Devs investigate

The team behind the eagerly awaited modification, known as “Counter-Strike: Classic Offense”, needs to look into things since Valve prevented the mod’s release. There’s a possibility that it could become available on Steam in the future.

As reported by the project creators, approximately a month following the removal of the mod card on Steam in January, they received a statement saying that Valve Corporation had raised concerns about whether their product still complied with the guidelines and terms specified in the Steam User Agreement. This morning, the team was contacted by Valve Corporation, who expressed these same concerns.

Given these concerns, the Classic Offensive team chose to thoroughly scrutinize the current iteration of the modification to verify that none of the game code infringes upon the rules established by Valve’s platform. Although specifics were not disclosed, one developer suggested in a separate post on X that this process might involve “redistribution,” potentially linked to the presence of files from the original launch of CSGO. (as reported by PCGamesN)

Fans of computer science are disheartened by this news. The mod, which has been in development for more than eight years and had received approval from Valve as part of the Steam Greenlight program, was expected to launch today, March 12 (the release date for Classic Offensive). However, it did not launch on schedule, as stated by the developer’s post. This unexpected delay has understandably upset players.

Even though some players have pointed out that Valve hasn’t canceled the project like they did with other fan-created works, it’s important to note that the Greenlight initiative is no longer active. The approval from Valve might not apply to the current Steam regulations, suggesting that the “green light” concept may be obsolete.

There’s a chance that after the team has reviewed and potentially eliminated any dubious sections of the code (during their “review”), we might see the release of Counter-Strike: Classic Offensive on Steam at last. This is hinted by the message from the developers, urging patience from players.

The question is, for how much time should we anticipate before we receive confirmation about the future changes concerning this alteration?
