Valorant devs reveal huge changes for 11.00 update & five-year anniversary

Riot Games has shared details about the upcoming Valorant update, version 11.00, and beyond, which will involve a significant transition to the powerful Unreal Engine 5 for various enhancements.

Over a span of five years now, gamers worldwide have had the opportunity to experience Valorant, introduced by Riot Games for the first time. Can you believe it’s already been five years? Time seems to fly by so quickly!

During that period, the multiplayer first-person-shooter set in Future Earth experienced numerous transformations, introducing many new characters (Agents), locations (maps), and play styles (game modes).

In honor of the fifth year milestone of the game, Riot is planning significant alterations such as transitioning to Unreal Engine 5, stricter measures against smurf accounts, introduction of a new competitive map, and adjustments in the form of buffs and nerfs for certain aspects. Here’s what you should be aware of.

Valorant switches to Unreal Engine 5 in July

In the upcoming period, a significant shift towards using Unreal Engine 5 will be noticeable. This transition is expected to occur with patch 11.02, which has been planned for the end of July, as per Riot’s announcement.

On the day of release, the update will be a substantial download as it involves replacing the engine, for which we thank you for your understanding. In the interim, we’ve taken extra care to ensure that the upgrade doesn’t interfere with your gaming experience, so the game’s appearance, feel, and even your unique strategies should remain largely unchanged.

With this update, you’ll notice enhancements aimed at boosting frame rates and quickening future patch downloads. Additionally, as a token of appreciation, there will be a unique gun buddy available to all users who log in during the 11.02 patch period!

On top of that special gun buddy, there will be a free event pass for the fifth year celebrations.

According to Riot, this upcoming release, known as the “5 Years // Beta Remastered Capsule,” is inspired by enjoyable moments from the past. It will feature a returning knife, a reactive companion, and an animated player card.

Other Valorant changes coming in patch 11.00 and beyond

Starting at version 11.00, players will receive a 50% reduction in Ranked Restrictions (RR) losses when playing on the new competitive map during its initial two-week release period. This is to facilitate easier learning of the new map within the competitive setting, as many players are already trying it for the first time there. Despite this reduction, you’ll still earn the full 100% RR gains when you win.

The developers of Valorant have mentioned that they will strengthen measures against smurfing by implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), such as app or SMS verification, for potentially suspicious accounts and are considering extending this requirement to all Competitive accounts.

In September, when update 11.06 rolls out, we’ll officially launch replays. After Valorant Champs concludes in October, we’ll delve into more adjustments for Agents, including potential buffs and nerfs.
