Valkyrae hits back after viewers compare her “degenerate” podcast to Pokimane’s show

As a seasoned gamer with a heart for authenticity and vulnerability in the gaming community, I wholeheartedly stand by Valkyrae and Alythuh’s podcast ‘Press ESC.’ Their willingness to share their real-life experiences, including topics such as abuse, loss, sexual assault, and other struggles, is not only refreshing but also incredibly relatable.

Notable live-streamer Valkyrae responded to critics who labeled her podcast “decadent” and drew comparisons between it and fellow caster Pokimane’s program featuring LilyPichu, by defending her own creative endeavor.

Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter, known as one of the top female livestream personalities online, debuted her podcast ‘Press ESC’ in autumn 2024 alongside artist and social media sensation ‘Alythuh.’

In this podcast, the co-hosts delve into subjects from their private lives that are typically excluded from their regular programming, such as sexual orientation, family dynamics, political views, and so forth – a conversation style not appealing to all listeners.

On November 10th, someone offered a critical opinion, likening Valkyrae and Alythuh’s podcast to Pokimane and LilyPichu’s Sweet ‘n Sour Show. They went as far as to label Rae’s Press ESC as “less refined” or “not up to the mark.

In a recent post on X, they stated that the Sweet ‘n Sour podcast is indeed entertaining and fun. However, let me clarify, I’m not trying to stir up any drama here. The podcast isn’t about discussing controversial or questionable topics, and it remains enjoyable nonetheless!

Valkyrae acknowledged a viewer’s comment and responded by clarifying that the content they found “inappropriate” was based on genuine events from her and Alythuh’s personal lives, which they have been honest and transparent about sharing with their audience.

“I appreciate your support for my girlfriends, but if what you mean by ‘degen stuff’ are the real-life struggles like abuse, loss, sexual assault, and other hardships that many people go through, then I agree it might not resonate with you. However, I encourage you to be thankful for your good fortune in avoiding such experiences.

I appreciate your backing for my friends, however, if you consider the tough realities we all face, such as abuse, loss, sexual assault, and other hardships that many people experience, as “degenerate experiences,” then indeed, it may not align with your perspective. But please remember to be thankful for your privileges.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, it’s heartening to see fans rallying around Rae like this. One of them even penned, “It’s genuinely invigorating to learn about your past experiences. Makes you seem more approachable and not just ‘CEO Rae.’ Here’s hoping you continue sharing your authentic content without any attempts at censorship.

Fortunately, they don’t have to watch it if it doesn’t appeal to them,” someone added. “I really admire all the topics that are being discussed SO much. They feel incredibly relatable and authentic! I also enjoy Sweet ‘n Sour and am just happy that this podcast era is taking place.

Valkyrae’s “Press ESC” podcast debuted concurrently with Poki and LilyPichu’s “Sweet ‘n Sour” podcast, offering a platform for these content creators to discuss aspects of their personal lives more deeply and share intriguing anecdotes from their streaming careers.

In a particular podcast, Pokimane spoke about choosing to stream on Twitch instead of accepting a substantial sum from YouTube, while Valkyrae discussed her personal preferences and requirements when it comes to dating partners in another episode.

Recently, Rae hasn’t shied away from setting critics straight, as was evident when she skillfully responded to a troll who called her “expired” at the age of 32 in October.
