As a dedicated gamer and manga enthusiast, I’ve been a fan of Junji Ito’s work for decades now. He’s the Stephen King of horror manga, masterfully crafting chilling stories with art that’s as hauntingly beautiful as it is petrifying. And guess what? The Blu-ray release of his legendary Uzumaki series, one of my all-time favorites, is hitting shelves on September 9! There are two editions to choose from, including the Limited Edition Steelbook, which I can’t wait to add to my collection.

For just $35, you can grab this stunning steelbook edition of the anime “Uzumaki,” showcasing Ito’s captivating artwork and the spine-chilling essence of spirals. And if you prefer, there’s also a standard Blu-ray edition available for $20.

In case you’re not familiar, Uzumaki is a globally acclaimed horror comic where a town experiences an unsettling transformation into spirals, causing its residents to lose their grip on reality. Amidst this chaos are Saito and Goshima, who must navigate a means to escape the insanity that’s distorting bodies and minds. The anime version was initially announced in 2019 but faced numerous delays before airing in late 2024.

One cause for the hold-ups was that the animation studio required additional time to accurately reproduce and animate Ito’s intricate artwork, which garnered at best mediocre responses. As a side product to the manga, it’s acceptable, but the series experiences a drop in quality following the undeniably impressive first episode. The series, Tomie, revolves around a woman who is cursed with a beauty that drives men to fall in love with her and often leads them to commit murder, usually against her.
