Upcoming Dragon Quest Remakes Will Be On Switch 2 At Launch This October

Square Enix has announced that the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is scheduled for release on October 30, with the Nintendo Switch 2 also included as a playable platform.

In November last year, the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake hit the shelves, recreating the NES original with a visual aesthetic similar to games like Octopath Traveler 2 and Triangle Strategy. Prior to its release, Square Enix hinted that the first two games in the Dragon Quest series, which follow chronologically after Dragon Quest 3, would receive the HD-2D Remake treatment next and be released as a bundle. TopMob has had a chance to try out these remakes and described them as “a breathtaking blend of classic pixel art and contemporary enhancements.

Originally set for launch on multiple platforms including PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the original Nintendo Switch, this remake has been rescheduled to debut on Nintendo’s latest console. This marks the third Square Enix game confirmed for the new Nintendo system, following Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. The game will retail for $60 across all platforms. However, it’s important to note that the physical version for the new Switch 2 will come on a Game-Key Card and will need to be downloaded to play.

If you haven’t got any Dragon Quest games as of now, Square Enix is providing an opportunity for you! They are launching the Dragon Quest HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy Collection, a $100 bundle available digitally only, which includes all three HD-2D remakes of Dragon Quest. Additionally, there will be a Collector’s Edition of Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake priced at $150. This special edition comes with a physical copy of the game, a character and monster blocks set, in-game items, digital wallpapers to decorate your devices.

The remastered 2D version of Dragon Quest 1 & 2, titled “Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake,” is scheduled to launch on October 30 across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the yet-to-be-released Nintendo Switch 2.
