Unveiling ‘Eyes of Wakanda’: The Exciting New Chapter in the Black Panther Saga!

In 2018, when Marvel Studios unveiled Black Panther in cinemas, they introduced audiences to Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther and the mystical nation of Wakanda. The fictional land stirred curiosity among viewers who wished to learn more about it and see it on various screens. In 2021, a partnership between Disney and Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media was announced, leading to the development of an animated Wakanda two years later in 2023. The name of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, Eyes of Wakanda, was eventually revealed, with storyboard artist Todd Harris sharing exclusive insights about the upcoming show with Entertainment Weekly.

As per the interview, Marvel gave Harris, an ardent fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since childhood, complete creative freedom. The show “Eyes of Wakanda” delves into the Hatut Zaraze, a group of brave Wakandan warriors who undertake daring missions worldwide to recover Vibranium artifacts from various historical periods. This animated series is set to debut on Disney+ in August. Harris, serving as both showrunner and director, expressed his delight with the concept of everyone’s perspective on history. “The narrative begins at the end of the Western Bronze Age, which triggers this extensive spy-thriller tale that echoes through time…You’ll encounter Wakanda-level James Bond characters, occasionally Jane Bond, all set against the backdrop of the awe-inspiring landscape of Wakanda.

The vocal talent for some of the warriors includes Cress Williams from Black Lightning as the Lion, supermodel Winnie Harlow as Noni, Patricia Belcher, Anika Noni Rose (from The Princess and the Frog), and Lynn Whitfield (from The Chi). Harris mentioned that they aimed to maintain a sense of mystery similar to the actual nation of Wakanda by keeping secrets whenever possible. He also referred to Eyes of Wakanda as being “adjacent” to an anthology.

In the series, we encounter crucial characters who significantly contribute to its narrative. Yet, it delves deeper into the nature of Wakanda itself – a society that has endured for 10 millennia. How does it maintain its resilience, resist the urge for excessive expansion, and avoid the pitfalls that have plagued many civilizations throughout history? What unique principles guide them towards stability and harmony, a balance that seems elusive to most modern societies? This is a question we ponder, exploring the kind of person such a society produces.

The Actor Harris Calls “An Authoritative Character” in ‘Eyes of Wakanda’

In the forthcoming animation, every character plays a crucial part, yet one stands out as a character who exhibits authority throughout the series – this role is set to be portrayed by Steve Toussaint in “House of the Dragon”. Additionally, it’s been reported by Entertainment Weekly that Toussaint will reprise his charismatic presence in the series, similar to how he captivated audiences in the prequel of “Game of Thrones”.

He’s a character with great authority, yet brimming with compassion and sincerity. He portrays a weary agent whose cynicism is well-earned. He fully commits to his role, driven by his family and unwavering loyalty to the cause. However, at times, his principles can surpass his duty. [Toussaint] masterfully balances this mix of toughness and gentleness.
