Until Dawn Movie Adaptation Releases On Digital, 4K Blu-Ray Preorders Are Live

Movie adaptations of video games can sometimes be either great or disappointing, but the project “Until Dawn” stood out due to the film’s unique interpretation of the game’s interactive storyline mechanics. If you missed it in theaters, “Until Dawn” is now accessible for home viewing. You can easily rent or purchase the digital version from Amazon Prime Video for $20-$25. For those who prefer physical copies and aren’t in a rush, the 4K Blu-ray combo pack of “Until Dawn” is up for preorder on Amazon and Walmart before its July 8 release date.

Until Dawn represents the third video game film adaptation undertaken by PlayStation Productions, following projects like Uncharted and Gran Turismo. Established in 2019, this production company is also known for adapting television versions of Twisted Metal and the highly praised HBO series The Last of Us.

If you happened to overlook it, Until Dawn presents an exclusive narrative and takes place within the same world as the game. The character of Dr. Hill, portrayed by Stormare, links the video game and the movie. Additionally, the film shares a similar atmosphere as the main characters find themselves trapped in a loop where they repeatedly die through various gruesome methods. Escaping this deadly cycle can only be achieved by surviving…until dawn. Despite mixed reviews, if you’re seeking a fun blend of horror and comedy with impressive direction, Until Dawn makes for an enjoyable viewing experience.

Besides PS5, you could opt for playing the game that underwent a “cinematic upgrade” with advanced graphics and sound engineering. Rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, the game now features revamped character models, settings, manipulable objects, visual effects, and animations, along with artistic transformations. Furthermore, you can explore some other chilling games from Supermassive Games, a studio renowned for creating interactive horror narratives.

Supermassive Horror Games

  • The Quarry — $40
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes — $14+
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Devil in Me — $10+
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope — $10+

PlayStation Movie & TV Adaptations

Hey there! As a gamer, I’ve got some exciting news to share. PlayStation Productions has been making waves with their film adaptations. We’ve seen them bring to life Naughty Dog’s Uncharted in 2022, Gran Turismo in 2023, and Until Dawn. However, their most successful project so far is undoubtedly The Last of Us, with the Season 2 finale airing this Sunday, May 26. And that’s not all! The studio has several other adaptations in different stages of production, such as a reboot of the Resident Evil franchise slated for 2026, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, and a sequel to Uncharted.

However, before the establishment of PlayStation Productions, other films and TV shows based on PlayStation games had already been produced, such as Ratchet & Clank and Heavenly Sword. The latter was re-released in Blu-ray format last year. Interestingly, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children – although not part of the traditional PlayStation franchise – served as a continuation to Square Enix’s popular PS1 exclusive game.

A majority of movie and TV series adaptations from PlayStation video games can be found on Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray discs. For instance, The Last of Us Season 1 was released in a Steelbook Edition, while the Uncharted Steelbook Edition includes Nathan Drake’s ring/necklace as an extra. However, the Steelbook Edition for Gran Turismo is exclusive to Walmart and offers the Blu-ray version in 1080p resolution.

  • Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete (4K Blu-ray) — $18 ($31)
  • Gran Turismo (4K Blu-ray) — $25 ($41)
  • Gran Turismo: Steelbook Edition (Blu-ray) — $22.39
  • Gran Turismo (Blu-ray) — $13 ($31)
  • Heavenly Sword – Collector’s Edition (Blu-ray) — $13 ($20)
  • Heavenly Sword (Blu-ray) — $12
  • The Last of Us: Season 1 (4K Blu-ray) — $23
  • The Last of Us: Season 1 – Steelbook Edition (4K Blu-ray) — $50.55
  • The Last of Us: Season 1 (Blu-ray) — $16
  • Ratchet & Clank (Blu-ray) — $24
  • Ratchet & Clank (DVD) — $9 ($10)
  • Uncharted Steelbook + Drake’s Ring Necklace (4K Blu-ray) — $32.40 | Also at Walmart
  • Uncharted (4K Blu-ray) — $17 ($31)
  • Until Dawn (4K Blu-ray) — $50 | Releases July 8

As a die-hard Nintendo enthusiast, if you’re intrigued by the wild ride of one of the most outlandish video game adaptations ever – the 1993 Super Mario Bros. live-action flick – you can grab the limited 30th Anniversary remaster in stunning 4K Blu-ray or standard Blu-ray from Amazon today! Unfortunately, the standard Blu-ray is currently out of stock, but you can still reserve your copy. For the 4K edition, I recommend clicking on “Other sellers on Amazon” and selecting an option that’s both shipped and sold by Amazon to ensure a seamless purchase experience.

Currently, Walmart offers a unique Limited Edition Steelbook of the upcoming 2023 animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, which remains the highest-grossing video game film adaptation ever made. The recently announced Minecraft Movie may not surpass this record, but it could become the second game adaptation to earn over a billion dollars at the box office. Preorder the 4K Steelbook Edition of Minecraft Movie for $38 on Amazon, or opt for Walmart’s exclusive edition, which comes in packaging designed to mimic the Minecraft Crafting Table.
