Unsurprisingly, Deadpool & Wolverine Is Already Breaking Box-Office Records Before Its Opening Weekend

As a die-hard fan of both Deadpool and Wolverine, I cannot contain my excitement as I witness the mind-blowing box office success of their long-awaited team-up movie. The Thursday previews have already shattered records, with an astounding $38.5 million in domestic ticket sales, surpassing even the impressive numbers of the previous Deadpool films and the highest preview gross ever for an R-rated movie.

Before the anticipated record-breaking debut weekend in the US, Deadpool and Wolverine have generated significant box office revenue during Thursday previews. Surpassing Inside Out 2’s previous record of $13 million, these two characters earned an impressive $38.5 million from domestic ticket sales.

Based on Variety’s report, this film’s Thursday night preview earnings surpass the previous record for an R-rated movie and significantly outdo the previews for the two preceding Deadpool films. To put it another way, Deadpool brought in $12.7 million during its 2016 Thursday previews, while Deadpool 2 upped the ante with $18.6 million. With Deadpool and Wolverine set to hit screens in almost all major international markets except China this weekend, we can expect even more box office records to be shattered.

It is projected that the combined opening weekend sales for Deadpool and Wolverine at the domestic box office will range from $160 million to $170 million. Globally, the earnings are expected to reach between $180 million and $190 million during this weekend’s release. If these numbers hold true, Deadpool and Wolverine will set a new record for the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated movie, surpassing the previous record of $132.4 million set by the first Deadpool film. For comparison, Inside Out 2 earned $154.2 million in its US debut weekend, while Barbie grossed a substantial $162 million during its July 2023 release.

If the Deadpool threequel brings in approximately $190 million during its first weekend in US theaters, this would rank as the second largest opening weekend in US history. The record is currently held by Spider-Man: No Way Home with its impressive earnings of $260.1 million. With Taylor Swift encouraging her fans to watch the film, there’s a strong chance that Deadpool will come close to reaching this milestone as the sole Marvel release in 2024.

GameSpot gave Deadpool & Wolverine a score of 4 out of 10 in their movie review. Other critics’ assessments have varied regarding the anticipated collaboration between these two famous Marvel figures.
