The most recent Wonder Pick event has introduced two fresh Promo cards into the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, and one of them plays a crucial role in constructing the powerful Palkia ex deck, currently ruling the game’s meta.
Just as every card game experiences a shift in strategy when a fresh expansion arrives, so did the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket upon the release of the Space-Time Smackdown set, which introduced legendary Pokémons like Dialga and Palkia.
Initially, it was expected that Dialga ex’s card would rule the game, but instead, Palkia ex emerged as the dominant choice. To make the Legendary truly stand out, a strategy emphasizing rapid energy generation is required. Interestingly, this can be achieved effectively with just a few select cards, including Manaphy – an unexpected addition to this month’s Wonder Pick event.
Manaphy is the supporter everyone needs
Upon its debut, Palkia quickly dominated the game’s metagame, but many assumed its reign would come to an end with the unveiling of the latest set – Triumphant Light. However, quite the opposite occurred; the Water-type Legendary actually grew stronger and emerged as a formidable threat to the entire meta.
When it comes to using Palkia EX, you’ll find that its moves are beneficial and within reach, but only if your deck has been well-constructed. This necessitates having supporting cards capable of supplying Palkia EX with numerous Water Energy cards to knock out opponents swiftly.
Even though Misty might seem like a highly effective pick, relying on coin flips for Energy can be too daring since you might land tails initially and thus squander a turn. To maximize this deck’s potential, opt for Pokémon that can generate energy, such as Vaporeon or the impressive Manaphy instead.
Vaporeon, introduced with the Mythical Island collection, is an excellent playable card. The special ‘Wash Out’ ability lets players transfer one Energy from their Benched Pokemon to their Active one. However, at present, no other card is as beneficial as Manaphy. Fortunately, due to the March 2025 Wonder Pick event showcasing its Promo version, everyone can easily obtain this valuable card.
Manaphy’s ‘Oceanic Gift’ ability enables you to add Energy to two of your Pokemon on the Bench, significantly expediting the process of powering up two Palkia ex. In a short span of turns, not only can you have one, but two fully energized Palkia ex prepared for combat.
It’s best to begin the game with Manaphy as your initial Pokémon, since Oceanic Gift needs just a single Energy to activate. To protect Manaphy from being defeated swiftly by your opponent, consider adding a Giant Cape for an additional 20 HP points.
Charge up Palkia ex and Vaporeon using Manaphy’s attack as much as possible. If either is knocked out, place Vaporeon on your active Pokémon spot and activate its ability to transfer all accumulated energy to Palkia ex.
After Palkia EX has been fully charged, it will leave your opponent without any Pokémon standing, since its move “Dimensional Storm” delivers 150 damage to their active Pokémon. Additionally, for every one of their benched Pokémon, an extra 20 damage is inflicted, making this a potent attack.
Instead of delaying further, grab some Manaphy cards from the ongoing event to get started with the Palkia ex meta-dominating deck in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Pocket edition.
