In the adventure known as “The Thieves Guild quest,” misdirection plays a key role, and it can be unveiled within the remastered version of “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” once you’ve attained a specific rank within the guild. The captain of the Imperial Watch has ordered many guards to fortify the Waterfront, and he remains there until he finds out where the Gray Fox is hiding.
To kick off the Misdirection mission, players must track down Methredhel and unravel the mystery behind its initiation. Of course, being part of the Thieves Guild, stealth and pilfering a few items will likely be necessary to finish this quest. In essence, there are four primary tasks: locate Methredhel, acquire a staff for later return, and gather intel on Lex.
Where To Find Methredhel During Misdirection In Oblivion Remastered
After accumulating 300 Gold pieces, approach S’Krivva to initiate the Misdirection mission. Then, consult your map and quickly teleport to the Imperial City. Follow the quest indicator to the Elven Gardens District and pay off a beggar to learn Methredhel’s whereabouts in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. She can be found hiding within Dynari Amnis’ house in Talos Plaza district. Proceed along the marker until you enter the residence, and engage in conversation with Methredhel who will brief you on the predicament at hand. Your task is to pilfer Hrormir’s Icestaff from the Arcane University as the mages are currently preoccupied. Since the Arch-Mage rests between 1 AM and 7 AM, ensure that you visit the university during those hours.
How To Steal The Hrormir’s Icestaff From The Arcane University In Oblivion Remastered
Instead of walking yourself to the university, you could simply look at a map and magically transport there. If you belong to the Mages Guild, have completed sufficient guild quests, and have risen in rank, then using portals to get to the Arch-Mage’s chambers will be hassle-free. However, those who are not part of the Mages Guild must resort to stealthy approaches or use persuasion to move forward.
Make your way into the university, stealthily follow the character towards the Council Chambers. It’s wise to save your progress before stepping through a portal, as you may encounter difficulties ahead. If there’s someone in the chamber, likely Irlav Jarol, you can either try to win him over with charms or convince him to stop bothering you. Alternatively, swift-footed players can dash to the next portal and use it quickly before the character gets a chance to talk.

Upon entering the Arch-Mage’s private chambers in “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered”, make off with Hrormir’s Icestaff, then approach the table close to his bed to leave a message. Afterward, return to Methredhel to hand over the staff and receive further instructions.
Where To Find Hieronymus Lex To Spy On Him In Oblivion Remastered
In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, you are tasked with tracking down Hieronymus Lex. Head over to the Waterfront district and look for the rundown shacks where he can be found. Keep observing him until a Dremora appears for a conversation with him. After this exchange, Lex will drop a scroll on the ground and order the guards to vacate the Waterfront. Retrieve the scroll and make your way back to Methredhel, reporting what you’ve discovered upon your return.
How To Return The Hrormir’s Icestaff In Oblivion Remastered
Inform Methredhel about the events leading to achieving the final goal of the Misdirection quest within The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The objective involves returning the staff to the Arcane University. To do this, follow the quest marker to Ontus Vanin’s residence, a former researcher. Employ a lockpick to unlock the sturdy lock on his house. Make sure to visit during late nights or early mornings, as Ontus will be asleep during those hours.

Make your way up to the second floor, locate the researcher’s private office, and find the door that’s not too tricky to open. Once there, step inside and you’ll see a chest in the corner of the room. Slip the staff into it before taking your leave. Afterward, head back to Bravil and find S’Krivva to finish the Misdirection quest and collect 300 Gold.
