Scouts serve as useful guides helping you determine your path and locate temples, shrines, or other significant landmarks that you seek. However, they do not remove the veil of mystery from the map, but instead, their role is comparable to the wise eagle in Homer’s Odyssey, providing a clearer view of your surroundings.

If you lend a hand to characters on your journey or finish minor sub-quests, they’ll often reward you with additional small tasks, providing you with even more prizes in return.

How to get more

At the onset of the game, you’ll only have a single Scout. However, you can acquire many more by carrying out these actions:

Initially in the game, there’s just one Scout for you. But if you perform certain tasks, you’ll gain numerous additional ones.

  • Exploring the world
  • Completing side quests
  • Building and upgrading Study Room in the Hideout.
  • Building a Kakurega

As you journey through the game, you’ll encounter Non-Player Characters (NPCs) who require assistance. If you notice a speech bubble over them, take the opportunity to interact with them, as they might decide to support your mission. Also, don’t forget to complete side missions when possible, because if you show kindness to the NPC involved, you could earn an extra Scout.

The initial mission you should tackle is titled “Seeking New Comrades,” located close to your Base Camp. In this mission, you’ll enlist your initial group of Explorers.

If resources permit, consider enhancing your Hideout by creating and improving a Study Room. This upgrade will provide an extra Scout and cut down your quest search area by as much as 60%. In essence, it means you’ll save resources over time.

  • Buy them back at the Kakurega
  • Change seasons
  • Help people of Japan

Instead of being the most affordable option, purchasing your Scouts from any Kakurega is undeniably the most convenient way to retrieve them. These Kakurega can be found scattered throughout Japan and once unlocked for 800 Mon, they become accessible via fast-travel. Upon entering, you’ll find bags on the wall that allow you to buy back your Scouts for 200 Mon each.

switching seasons will entirely renew all of your utilized Scouts. This method isn’t recommended for frequent use, but if you don’t mind experiencing many season changes, it’s the most cost-effective way to refresh Scouts in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Simply press H or your designated key to change the season and refresh the Scouts.

Finally, while you’re venturing around, engage with the individuals we previously mentioned – those with the speech bubbles. If you assist them by helping, rescuing, or providing what they need, you have two options: requesting World Gossip or obtaining Scout Information.
