Unlock the Secrets: How to Catch Kubfu and Urshifu in Pokémon Go!

In the onset of the Might and Mastery season, the Wushu Pokemon Kubfu made its debut in Pokemon Go. However, it wasn’t until the Final Strike event transpired that it evolved into Urshifu, appearing in two distinct forms.

Undeniably, the standout event of the ongoing Pokemon Go season has been the debut of the Legendary creature from Generation 8, Kubfu.

In the expansion pack for Sword & Shield titled The Isle of Armor, a Fighting-type character was introduced. Here, players faced the challenge of choosing between the two possible evolutionary paths for this creature: the Single Strike Style and Rapid Strike Style forms of Urshifu.

With everyone in your family now participating in Pokemon Go due to the Final Strike: Go Battle Week event, let’s walk through the process of adding each member to your Pokedex.

Since the entire family has hopped on board with Pokemon Go thanks to the Final Strike: Go Battle Week event, here is a simple guide for including them all in your Pokedex.

How to get Kubfu in Pokemon Go

Currently, due to its recent introduction in Niantic’s game, catching Kubfu remains challenging because it doesn’t appear randomly (in the wild), can’t be obtained through eggs hatching, and isn’t found during Raid Battles or Max Raids.

At the moment, players can obtain Kubfu in Pokemon Go exclusively through two research paths: “Fuzzy Fighter” (the fifth part) and the initial phase of the Seasonal Research titled “Might and Mastery”. These tasks are associated with the “Final Strike: Go Battle Week” event that is scheduled to take place from May 21, 2025, to May 27, 2025.

To have an encounter with Kubfu, players need to complete a sequence of challenges. However, this isn’t your average Kubfu; it’s a Dynamax Kubfu.

Players must finish certain tasks to meet Kubfu, but it’s not the usual Kubfu; it’s a special one called Dynamax Kubfu.

To date, Kubfu and its form, Urshifu, remain unique in that they were simultaneously introduced with their standard and Dynamax versions.

How to evolve Kubfu into Urshifu

Kubfu, unlike many Pokemon, doesn’t follow the typical evolution path with consecutive stages. Instead, it has a branching evolution system, which implies two distinct forms for Kubfu. Players are required to make a choice between these two forms during the evolution process.

Trainers must accomplish specific tasks to obtain either the Urshifu Single Strike Style, which is a dual Fighting/Dark-type Pokemon, or the Urshifist Rapid Strike Style, which is a dual Fighting-Water-type Pokemon. Although they share similar evolutionary prerequisites regarding Candy, trainers need to complete unique tasks to secure one variant over the other.

  • Single Strike Style: To evolve Kubfu into Urshifu Single Strike Style, players must gather 200 Kubfu Candy and defeat 30 Dark-type Pokemon in Raids or Max Battles with Kubfu as their Buddy.
  • Rapid Strike Style: To evolve Kubfu into Urshifu Rapid Strike Style, players must gather 200 Kubfu Candy and defeat 30 Water-type Pokemon in Raids or Max Battles with Kubfu as their Buddy.

It’s important to mention that while trainers are required to make Kubfu their companion, they are not obligated to utilize the Wushu Pokémon to conquer the 30 Dark or Water-type adversaries.

Kubfu Candy

Since players can’t catch Kubfu in the wild nor hatch it from eggs, accumulating enough Candy for its evolution can prove quite challenging due to the high requirement.

The positive aspect is that the ongoing Final Strike event offers players free Timed Research, which grants them Kubfu Candy and Rare Candy. On top of that, by accomplishing the Fuzzy Fighter Special Research and the Might and Mastery Seasonal Special Research, players can collect up to 40 and 175 Kubfu Candy respectively.

In the ongoing Final Strike event, playing the free Timed Research will reward you with Kubfu Candy and Rare Candy. If you complete two additional special research quests called Fuzzy Fighter and Might and Mastery, you’ll receive even more Kubfu Candy (up to 40 and 175 respectively).

How to get Gigantamax Urshifu

Not only do both versions of Wushu Pokemon possess Gigantamax transformations, which make them grow into massive, fierce-looking white bears. Yet, these Gigantamax forms have not been incorporated into the world of Pokemon Go as of now.

Upon transformation, players will instantly distinguish between the two forms of Gigantamax Urshifu: Single Strike Style features red markings on its fur, enhanced details, and an expanded headband; while Rapid Strike Style showcases blue patterns, rounded details, and a lowered headband.

Can Kubfu & Urshifu be Shiny?

Unfortunately, in Pokemon Go, it’s not possible to make Kubfu or its evolutions, Urshifu Single Strike Style and Rapid Strike Style, Shiny.

1 of 3

As a dedicated Pokémon Trainer, I’ve noticed a pattern – when a fresh Pokémon joins the game, it typically doesn’t make an appearance with its Shiny form initially. This strategy seems to be in place so that Niantic can reserve those rare, shimmering variants for some future exciting event instead!

It appears these Legendaries won’t receive the Shiny Kubfu, Shiny Urshifu Single Strike Style, and Shiny Urshifu Rapid Strike Style versions because they have been “shiny-restricted.” This means that they are programmed to not appear in their Shiny color variants.

Here’s all you require for catching Kubfu and evolving it into both its Urshifu forms within Pokemon Go. Remember to keep tabs on the most recent Pokemon Go events, such as the ongoing Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
