The long-awaited game, Elden Ring: Nightreign, has arrived and it’s likely to take many players by surprise. Apart from retaining the challenging elements characteristic of previous Souls series, this game requires cooperation among three players to vanquish the Nightlords – a powerful ensemble of bosses that lie at the end of each adventure. At times, the experience may feel overpowering, but every defeat offers valuable insights.
Just like other games in the Souls series, much of the information isn’t immediately clear until you play it yourself or consult a guide. Even if you’re familiar with Elden Ring, there’s still plenty to learn due to changes in builds (now referred to as Nightfarer classes) and the unique feature of bosses that adapt to three-player groups.
10. Clean Up Random Mobs As You Move From Place to Place
You Might Need A Few More Runes For A Final Level Up
In the game Elden Ring, runes serve as the primary currency for every skill or item purchase, and leveling up. Frequently in my Elden Ring adventures, I’ve reached a point where I couldn’t level up one more time before facing the final boss. During these Nightreign runs, even a modest amount of runes (a few hundred) can significantly impact your stats, potentially giving you an edge against a Nightlord. Therefore, it’s advisable to engage and defeat any enemy encounters you come across, within reason.
To put it simply, instead of focusing solely on combating enemies that are close to points of interest, strive to gather runes from enemies around you consistently as well. Harvesting souls from nearby enemies becomes particularly efficient during late stages of the game, such as after the playing field has been significantly reduced on day one or two.
9. The Max Level Per Run Is 15, But You Don’t Need It
Many Parties Will End Runs At Level 10-12
In Elden Ring Nightreign, don’t worry too much about increasing your levels. If you can defeat regular enemies (as indicated by dragon face icons on the map), you’re doing great. Just remember that you’ll need to prepare for the bosses in night one and night two. Starting at level five after the first night and level 10 after the second night can still pave the way for success against these challenging opponents.
On most occasions, you won’t reach the maximum level of 15 while learning the game. Instead, it’s advisable to strive for around level 12. This level provides an excellent balance, allowing you to dodge one-shot deaths from bosses (particularly for lighter weight ranged classes) and deal enough damage to contribute effectively to the clear. While more is generally better, remember that a run isn’t automatically over just because you haven’t reached the maximum level.
8. Always Plan Ahead For An End Of Run Weapon
Try To Find Items For A Boss Weakness First
Before engaging in each boss battle, it’s crucial to prepare by acquiring weapons that exploit the boss’s weaknesses. For example, the Sentient Pest is vulnerable to fire, so if you notice a fire camp on your map during your run, it would be wise to stop by and search for a fire weapon at some point. Weaknesses serve a purpose beyond just increasing damage: they can cause a boss to become temporarily immobilized with a stunlock animation.
If you don’t possess any inherent weakness-based weapons, certain artifacts bestow players with a particular element or affinity on their initial weapon. You can enhance this weapon using crafting materials (obtainable from vendors, mines, or scattered across the map) to transform it into high-level/endgame equipment. By discovering and accumulating these artifacts, you can arm them for specific battles against certain bosses, ensuring that you’re always prepared when facing the Nightlord.
7. Focus On Just A Few Classes For Your First Boss Clear
Pick One You Like And Kit It Out
Each player has a unique approach in gameplay, making them naturally drawn to distinct Nightfarer classes. However, an effective strategy to achieve your initial victory (and future conquests) is to specialize in only one or two classes, equipping them with the finest relics you can find, thereby optimizing their potential and simplifying the learning process since you won’t be juggling multiple playstyles at once.
One important point to remember: The Ironeye class, although it operates at a distance, comes with an infinite supply of arrows. If you’ve been hesitant about using ranged characters due to ammo concerns, don’t worry in Nightreign. Give the Ironeye a try as it’s one of the most entertaining and efficient classes in the game.
6. Learn The Layouts Of The Points Of Interest
They Are Randomly Filled, But the Pathing Is The Same
In Elden Ring Nightreign, while random generation is a significant element, not every detail follows this pattern. For example, the designs of keeps and forts remain consistent across all games. However, the types of enemies you’ll encounter and their specific locations might vary. This means that in each game, there will always be a giant keep, but the bosses in the basement or on the rooftop could differ every time.
Keeping that thought in your head, it’s crucial to understand where to input the location – whether it’s at the top or bottom – as this knowledge can significantly cut down time and enhance efficiency for each attempt. By exploring each significant spot a few times, you’ll become familiar with the terrain. This way, you can swiftly target each area and proceed to the next one in your hunt for superior upgrades.
5. Don’t Be Afraid To Run From A Tough Fight
It’s Better Than Losing Multiple Levels
A significant element I’ve noticed affecting unsuccessful game launches in Elden Ring Nightreign is encountering enemies that are excessively powerful. The challenge lies in determining an enemy’s strength, as sometimes elite monsters prove easy to defeat while at other times they can instantly wipe out the entire party. Mastering this assessment skill on-the-fly can determine the success or failure of a game run.
It’s okay to call for help from another area if a player is having trouble defeating a boss repeatedly. The community might take some time to understand this strategy, but remember that you can always return to fight the boss again. You don’t have to stick around during day one, two, and the Nightlord final encounter unless you want to.
4. Losing Levels Can Be A Crushing Blow, But It Can Be Avoided
Get Your Runes Back
Whenever I find myself in a difficult battle in Nightreign, I always make it a point to return to my runes if I happen to perish. Since Nightreign has a knack for bringing me back close to where I died, recovering lost runes isn’t usually a hassle. Death in Nightreign can be quite harsh, so it’s better to play it safe. If I were to die, I would lose a level. If I don’t manage to retrieve my runes, I stand to lose all the levels I could have potentially gained. Each level significantly boosts my stats, so I aim to avoid such a scenario at all costs.
If you were to pass away and find yourself at a lower level, it’s not a catastrophic event for the universe. You can still take on a Nightlord effectively without being at the highest possible level of 15. This leaves room for mistakes, especially if you possess potent relics and gear. Moreover, your teammates can chip in to help compensate as well.
3. Use The Flightpaths To Get Around
They Are Way More Useful Than You Think
Pay attention to the trees marked as flightpaths on the map during each mission, as they could prove essential for navigation, particularly in tense scenarios. To employ one, simply approach the tree close to the flightpath, and a mystical bird will transport you, much like a glider does in a battle royale game. You can observe the flightpath ahead on the map, as it appears as a suggested wind current.
From my observations, these flightpaths were seldom employed during the pre-launch phase. It might take some time for the community to realize their usefulness, but starting to utilize them right away will significantly reduce your travel time compared to walking, making navigation through the game world a breeze.
2. Get A Feel For How Long Every Activity Will Take
The Battle Royale Ring Is Always Ready To Close Up
In the game Elden Ring Nightreign, time is crucial at all times. While some players might decide to focus on clearing an entire region, staying too long in one zone can slow down your overall advancement. If you find yourself dealing minimal damage to a boss, consider retreating and returning when you’re better equipped to defeat them more efficiently.
Regardless of whether you gradually wear down an opponent and emerge victorious without taking a hit, the boundary will still move towards you, confining your exploration and denying access to various points of interest that could contain valuable items and enhancements for your gameplay. Some regions take longer to clear than others, but being aware of the significant rewards each one offers can help you focus on the essentials and eliminate unnecessary tasks.
1. The Wylder Is The Best Starting Class In Elden Ring Nightreign
Jack Of All Trades, Master Of Some
It could be said that every character class in Elden Ring Nightreign can prove effective, as they indeed have the potential. However, it should be noted that just because I managed to defeat the Nightlords with a mix of all the available Nightfarers, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are equally straightforward to play. For example, the Duchess, a stealth-oriented character unlockable in the game, can be quite challenging to master and is relatively vulnerable. Players who prefer to stay away from close combat and dodging might find her less suitable, especially when tackling initial boss fights.
As a seasoned moviegoer, I must say that if you’re embarking on your maiden voyage into this game’s world, the Wylder is undeniably the ideal character to choose. This class offers a balanced statline that caters to various gaming styles, and it allows for versatile weapon usage, expanding your play options significantly. Moreover, their unique ability to resurrect themselves once in tough situations makes them an indispensable asset, whether you’re playing alone or in a group.
Experiencing the Wylder character in Elden Ring Nightreign is an excellent method to grasp its complexities, as the self-resurrection skill mitigates errors and grants extended battle time for understanding fights and mechanics. The versatile Wylders cater to dodge-intensive, block-heavy, two-handed, or ranged combat styles, thereby expanding possibilities for various players. Once you’ve mastered the fundamentals, explore all the classes to discover your preferred match.
