Unlock the Early Game Secrets in Atomfall

Starting out with Atomfall may initially seem challenging and even puzzling, but by following these tips, the early stages of play should feel as smooth as a gentle breeze.

Upon exiting the bunker in Atomfall for the first time, you’re faced with numerous queries. Mainly, what is my location? Who is the ominous voice coming from on the phone? However, what confuses me the most is: In which direction should I move first?

In contrast to other open-world games that provide explicit guidance through objective markers, this one requires you to employ your detective instincts as you traverse the quarantined area. While you have the liberty to explore anywhere you wish, the scant leads available may leave you unsure about where to begin, making it a challenging endeavor.

No need to fret; there are a few straightforward tasks that, if completed, will help ensure a smooth start for you.

Find the Metal Detector

In Atomfall, the Metal Detector is a vital asset as it helps you discover concealed stockpiles brimming with essential supplies and unique Lunchboxes. But, beware, it can go unnoticed if you solely stick to the primary route.

The Metal Detector is crucial in Atomfall for finding hidden caches containing valuable supplies and collectible Lunchboxes. However, it’s easy to overlook it when only sticking to the main road.

To locate it, step outside the bunker to your left and continue until you spot a damaged house where Nat Buckshaw resides. Instead of proceeding along the road ahead, cross the bridge on your right side, then follow the narrow trail.

In time, you’ll find yourself approaching a tiny lake. To your right, there’s a corpse resting on a stone, with a Metal Detector nearby. A thorough search of the body will permanently add it to your inventory. However, be cautious as some fish might try to nibble at you.

After acquiring the detector, it will emit signals to alert you when a nearby storage of supplies is detected. These caches frequently hold crucial supplies such as ammunition and healing items that are essential for your survival in the initial stages.

Pick up a Shotgun

In the intense battles of Atomfall, if swinging an axe isn’t doing the trick, then you’ll certainly require something stronger. Fortunately, you can quickly acquire a potent Leamington 12 Gauge Shotgun, provided you know the right places to search.

Right across from Nat Buckshaw’s residence, you’ll find another dilapidated structure that calls for an adventure. Initially, it appears empty, but venturing within reveals a hidden secret – a narrow opening in the back room that one could just manage to fit through.

Inside this location, you’ll find some additional resources to aid you in your journey and a corpse leaning against the wall. A quick search of the body will reward you with a complimentary Shotgun, which will prove useful in fending off any pesky outlaws that come too close.

Find a Rifle

At short distances, the Shotgun is capable of causing significant damage to opponents. However, it’s advisable to eliminate them from afar before they start reducing your health meter. To do this effectively, you might want to consider using a Terrier .22 Rifle instead, which can be acquired shortly after exiting the bunker.

Initially, stick to the primary route until you come across the Waterwheels. There, you may observe and hear some lawless individuals loitering around, potentially making you uneasy as your supplies are limited and you’re exposed. However, venturing inside is definitely beneficial despite these apprehensions.

Make your way towards the big structure situated on the southern part of the area, then enter it. In one of the room corners, you’ll see a Rifle propped against a stool that you are welcome to take.

In Atomfall, it’s often best not to engage in fights due to the scarcity of ammo and the risk of being overpowered. But when you’re still getting the hang of things, having a few weapons on hand just in case you find yourself in an unexpected skirmish is crucial for newcomers.

In Slatten Dale, the weapons you currently have may not be completely free of rust, but they’re definitely potent enough to handle the enemies you’ll encounter. However, as you progress through other regions, you’ll come across better, less rusty guns.

As Atomfall looks set to be a standout game this year, don’t forget to explore other upcoming titles slated for release in 2025 as well.
