Unlock Flapple & Appletun in Pokémon Go: The Ultimate Applin Evolution Guide!

Recently, Applin has been introduced in Pokemon Go for the first time, featuring a unique event. While evolving Applin into Flapple and Appletun is possible, it requires two specific items. Here’s a guide on how to acquire both Flapple and Appletun within the game.

In the Pokémon series, many Pokémon undergo various stages of evolution. But some special ones have a unique split evolution process, like Oddish, Wurmple, Cherubi, Applin, and their kin.

In this case, these creatures retain their original form rather than transforming into different ones based on their prior stage. However, they possess multiple distinct forms derived from the same base creature, giving the player the choice of which one to use.

For Gen 8’s Applin character in Pokemon Go, you have the chance of it evolving into either Flapple or Appletun. Here’s a simple guide for obtaining each evolutionary form:

1. To evolve Applin into Flapple, ensure that your Applin has reached level 17 and then simply let it rest at night. The transformation will occur naturally during the evening hours.
2. To evolve Applin into Appletun, you’ll need to have an Applin with a high friendship level (maximum friendship of “Great Friends” or higher). Once Applin has reached level 17, use a “Sunstone” item on it during the daytime hours. This will trigger its evolution into Appletun.

Applin evolutions explained

Applin, a creature that’s both Grass and Dragon type, has multiple forms it can evolve into, although its evolutionary path is a little more intricate compared to some others.

The Pokemon known as Apple Core has three different appearances: Flapple, Appletun, and Dipplin. At this point, it’s important to note that only Flapple and Appletun have been made accessible for trainers, while the third form, Dipplin, can evolve into another creature called Hydrapple at a later stage.

The Pokemon known as Apple Core has three distinct shapes: Flapple, Appletun, and Dipplin. For now, only Flapple and Appletun are available for trainers to catch, while the third form, Dipplin, can evolve into a different creature called Hydrapple at some future point.

These characters made their first appearance in Generation 8 (Applin, Flapple, and Appletun), whereas Dipplin and Hydrapple emerged during Generation 9.

How to get Applin in Pokemon Go

During the thrilling Sweet Discoveries event that started on April 24, 2025, I got a new character added to my game! This exciting event is set to last till April 29, 2025.

Starting with the event and moving forward, Applin can be found:

  • As a wild spawn
  • As a Research reward – Paid Timed Research
  • While searching for Apples

Over the course of gameplay, there’s a possibility that players could encounter Applin in various ways: either as a Raid boss, through hatching Eggs, or by completing Research tasks. However, the specifics depend on Niantic’s future strategies and decisions.

How to evolve Applin into Flapple & Appletun

To evolve their Applin into Flappple, Pokemon Go players must accumulate 200 Candy and collect 20 Tart Apples as well.

Instead of transforming Applin into Appletun, you’ll need a different set of resources: specifically, 200 pieces of Candy and 20 Sweet Apples.

Here’s another way to say it:
To turn Applin into Appletun, you’ll require an additional 200 Candy and exactly 20 Sweet Apples this time around.

To maximize your Candy gains for both evolution stages, consider using Pinap Berries when catching them. This will boost the Candies you earn per capture. Any Applin you don’t plan to evolve can be given to Professor Willow for extra Candy. Additionally, setting an Applin as your Buddy and going for walks will also help you accumulate more Candy.

How to collect Apples

Starting now, players can come across apples as they traverse through the wilderness. A simple tap on these apples may yield either Sweet Apples, Tart Apples, or an encounter with a rare creature known as Applin for trainers.

Apart from their usual locations, you’ll find apples more frequently near the Mossy Lure Modules too. These fresh apples serve as a crucial item since they’re needed for the evolution of Applin.

Key differences between Flapple and Appletun

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that while Flapple and Appletun share the same dual Grass-Dragon type, there are distinct differences between them in terms of their stats, maximum Combat Power (CP), and move sets they can learn.

The Pokemon Flapple, with a maximum CP of 2788, excels in attacking due to its elevated Attack stat. On the other hand, Appletun, also having a max CP of 2772, is more formidable defensively because of its superior Stamina.

Regarding their movesets, they share effective Grass and Dragon-type attacks like Bullet Seed, Seed Bomb, Dragon Pulse, and Outrage. However, Flapple possesses a single Flying-type attack (Fly), while Appletun has a sole Ghost-type move (Astonish).

Can Applin, Flapple, and Appletun be Shiny?

No, Applin and its evolutions – Flapple and Appletun – cannot be Shiny in Pokemon Go, yet.

Typically, when a fresh Pokemon is introduced in the game, it doesn’t appear with its Shiny variant at the same time. This allows Niantic to reserve Shinies for future unique events instead.

Once Shiny Applin, Shiny Flapple, and Shiny Appletun become available, players can easily identify them because their typical red colors transform into green, referencing the Granny Smith apple variety.

Keep in mind that the likelihood of discovering a Shiny Pokemon is quite rare since there’s no specific method or trick to guarantee an encounter. Trainers can only boost their chances by diligently searching for numerous wild Pokemons, participating in Raids against bosses, and hatching as many Eggs as possible until they finally find the one they’re after.

In this guide, you will learn how to catch Applin and evolve it into Flapple and Appletun in Pokemon Go. Be sure not to miss out on the latest events happening in the game, such as the ongoing Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
