On Instagram, there’s a new feature allowing you to revert your feed back to a previous order. Here’s all you need to understand about it.

Each time you launch the Instagram application, their artificial intelligence tailors your feed according to your actions, aiming to maintain your involvement for extended periods. By doing so, it presents content that is more probable to appeal to you instead of arbitrary posts.

While the algorithm generally works well, it’s not infallible. For instance, if you occasionally delve into a subject, it might end up overwhelming your feed. Alternatively, a careless like or share could make Instagram assume you’re deeply interested in something you actually dislike.

Earlier, your choices were rather restricted. To express disinterest, you might hide posts or explore different subjects to change the algorithm, or you could create a completely new account from scratch. However, now, Instagram presents a simpler option: a total overhaul of the algorithm itself.

How to reset Instagram algorithm

In January 2025, Instagram started a worldwide release of its algorithm adjustment function. If you can use it, here’s how to proceed:

1. Navigate to your account settings.
2. Look for the ‘Account’ section.
3. Find and click on the ‘Algorithm Adjustment’ option.
4. Follow the prompts to complete the reset process.

  1. Open Instagram and head to your profile.
  2. Tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner to access your settings.
  3. Scroll down and select Content preferences under the ‘What you see’ section.
  4. Tap the new Reset suggested content option.

Currently, Instagram alerts you that once you reset the algorithm, it’s irreversible. Instead of a complete overhaul, they advise you to consider unfollowing specific accounts as an alternative option.

If you’re certain about your decision, simply tap the “Reset suggested content” button once more in the pop-up. After that, you’ll be taken back to your main feed, and a discreet message will verify your reset action.

After refreshing, your feed will display posts outside of your usual selection, providing a fresh start to explore and reshape your preferences on Instagram. Now, you have an opportunity to interact meaningfully with content, helping the system suggest more relevant content for you.
