Despite Ash Ketchum being well-known as a key figure within the Pokemon franchise, it’s actually Red, the protagonist from the original games and Champion of the Kanto region, who stands as the world of Pokemon’s foremost hero. Red’s prowess in Pokemon training surpasses even Ash’s abilities, and he has made appearances across various Pokemon media, showcasing his exceptional skills in battles consistently.
In essence, Ash Ketchum shares some similarities with Red’s animated character, but it’s important to note that Red has made appearances in various anime versions of Pokémon, including “Pokémon Generations” and “Pokémon Origins”. Just like any other Trainer, Red boasts a rotating roster of powerful Pokémon that he heavily relies upon. Many of these Pokémon are regular members of his main team, or have posed significant challenges for Red to capture.
The Fire-type Is Able to Break Apart Waterfalls
The online miniseries titled “Pokétoon” or “POKÉTOON“, consists of short, engaging tales featuring diverse characters, both humans and Pokémons. One such episode, “The Pancham Aspiring to Be a Hero”, narrates the journey of a resolute Fighting-type Pokémon who aspires to become a hero following an encounter with a potent Fire-type. This fiery creature is unveiled to be none other than Arcanine, accompanied by a Trainer during their travels. However, they temporarily halted their journey to aid Pancham after another wild Pokémon attempted an attack. Although not directly named, the Trainer’s appearance unmistakably suggests it’s none other than the famous Red.
Thanks to being trained by Red, Arcanine has undeniably grown into a formidable Pokémon. Originating from Growlithe, Arcanine undergoes evolution upon encountering a Fire Stone, significantly enhancing its abilities. As depicted in the Pokétoon, Arcanine’s power is so immense that it can shatter a waterfall with its Flamethrower move. Although we don’t witness a true battle between the Legendary Pokémon, it is not hard to envision the Fire-type as an exceptional combatant.
Snorlax Is a Powerful Normal-type Awoken by the Poké Flute
In both the original and remade Generation I games, players come across a scenario where a Snorlax, a wild Pokémon, obstructs the path with its slumber. To move forward, they need to play a Poké Flute, which wakes up the sleeping Snorlax. However, this action angers the normally peaceful Snorlax, leading to a battle. If the player manages to catch Snorlax in the fight, they gain a strong addition to their team. Snorlax is renowned for its high Defense and diverse array of powerful moves.
In Pokémon Origins, just like its video game version, Red awakens and eventually captures a wild Snorlax. Despite having limited screen time, it’s clear that Snorlax is no Pokémon to provoke, given its ability to unleash the powerful Hyper Beam attack. Snorlax falls shortly after using this move, but its intimidating presence lingers. Fans who have played Pokémon Legends: Arceus are well aware of how perilous it can be to encounter a wild Snorlax, especially since those found in the game won’t think twice about attacking anyone with Hyper Beam.
The Shadow Pokémon Later Tries to Fight Mewtwo
In one of the early generations of Pokémon, Gengar – a Ghost/Poison type character – continues to be a fan favorite. This trickster Pokémon is often seen lurking in the shadows of living beings, ready to startle them at just the right moment. While some Gengar may just be playing around, it’s important to remember that they can also have malicious intentions. Fortunately for Red, the Gengar on his team proves to be a trustworthy companion.
In the captivating world of Pokémon Origins, I bear witness to the initial appearance of the enigmatic Shadow Pokémon, taking form as a Haunter. Already in its pre-evolved state, this Ghost/Poison-type creature proved itself an impressive combatant, aiding Red significantly against the Psychic-type Pokémon commanded by Sabrina.
Later on, Gengar, the fully-evolved manifestation of this spectral being, graced our screens as its Trainer sought to capture Mewtwo, the legendary Pokémon conceived by Team Rocket. Despite succumbing to Mewtwo’s might, the sheer power that Gengar exhibited in that moment left a lasting impression on all who beheld it.
The Classy Cat Pokémon Battles Against Fearow
Meowth is a well-loved Pokémon across the entire franchise, largely due to the amusing antics of Scratch Cat Pokémon teaming up with Jessie and James from Team Rocket. Interestingly, the evolved form of Meowth, Persian, is often linked to Giovanni, being the only Pokémon on his team that he seems to have a special attachment to. Like its previous form, Persian exhibits a somewhat unpredictable temperament. However, upon evolving, it gains more power and can now execute moves like Power Gem.
In the anime series “Pokémon Origins,” it’s worth noting that Red, who usually aligns with Team Rocket, has a Persian on his team. This Normal-type Pokémon is fiercely loyal to its trainer, despite the species being known for their arrogance. Throughout the series, we see Persian assisting Red in battles and catching other powerful Pokémon. In fact, it plays a significant role in helping Red achieve the title of Champion later on. This could suggest that Red and Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, might be two sides of the same coin, as their struggle against each other seems to evoke memories of their shared past in Giovanni.
Rhyhorn Is Knocked Out Thanks to the Fighting-type’s Attacks
Among the diverse transformations of the Scuffle Pokemon Tyrogue, Hitmonlee stands out for its powerful kicks and a possible connection to the iconic Bruce Lee. While it can be discovered in the wild, a Tyrogue will metamorphose into Hitmonlee only if its Attack stats surpass its Defense stats. This means trainers must carefully monitor their Pokemon’s growth, not just its leveling up process, but also how each statistic is individually developing – particularly when aiming for a specific evolution in the future. In the series Pokémon Origins, Red is depicted with Hitmonlee as part of his team.
When Red realizes that his foe, Red (Giovanni’s enemy), has taken up position at the Viridian City Gym, the local Gym Leader and Team Rocket master chooses two exceptionally strong Pokémon in an attempt to vanquish the young Trainer. First off is Giovanni’s Rhyhorn, managing to take out multiple of Red’s Pokémon even before it evolves into Rhydon. In a bid to finally defeat his formidable adversary, Red deploys Hitmonlee, who launches a flurry of kicking attacks. Regrettably, Hitmonlee has no energy left for battle, but Rhyhorn is also felled by the same means.
The Gentle Water/Ice-Type Helps Navigate the Sea
I’ve had the chance to witness the fascinating tale of Lapras, the Transport Pokémon, in the vibrant realm of Pokémon. This tranquil creature carries a rich and intricate past. Generally speaking, it shies away from combat, preferring to evade conflicts when confronted. Regrettably, this pacifistic nature led to its endangered status in previous times. Fortunately, the number of Lapras has skyrocketed since Generation VII, though now there seems to be an oversupply.
Following Red’s heroic act of rescuing a band of scientists from Team Rocket, he receives a Lapras as a token of gratitude. This gentle Water/Ice Pokémon becomes virtually inseparable from Red, becoming an integral part of his squad. In fact, Lapras demonstrates such strength that it manages to overpower Lance’s Dragonite, thanks to its Ice Beam attack. However, during the battle with Blue, Lapras suffered a defeat at the paws of Arcanine, but not without inflicting damage on Blue’s Rhydon first.
Jolteon Shares Red’s Desire to Stop Team Rocket
Eevee, with its various transformations known as ‘Eeveelutions’, continues to be a favorite among Pokémon enthusiasts. This versatile Evolution Pokémon is an excellent addition to any team due to its unique ability to change form. If you have a preference for Fairy-type or Fire-type Pokémon, Eevee can evolve into Sylveon and Flareon respectively. In the animated series ‘Pokémon Origins’, Red opts to evolve his own Eevee into Jolteon privately.
Despite each “Eeveelution” having unique strengths, Jolteon emerges as a valuable companion for Red. While it does have its flaws, particularly when squaring off against Giovanni, the Lightning Pokémon boasts remarkable speed capabilities. Interestingly, it seems to share Red’s disdain for Team Rocket and doesn’t hold back during battles with Giovanni or his minions. Like other members of its species, Jolteon possesses a formidable array of Electric-type attacks in its move set, including Thunderbolt and Thunder.
The Legendary Pokémon Defeated Most of Red’s Team
Mewtwo stands out among the other Pokémon in the franchise due to its unique power and intricate history. Before crossing paths with Red in “Pokémon Origins”, some members of Team Rocket managed to find remnants of Mew, the New Species Pokémon’s DNA. Under Giovanni’s orders, they created a genetically modified clone of the Mythical Pokemon. Unfortunately, this Genetic Pokémon was subjected to grueling gene-splicing experiments and mistreatment at the hands of its creators. This harsh treatment prompted Mewtwo to break free and seek retribution against mankind as a whole.
Adventuring through the lands, I stumbled upon a Trainer named Blue who had been gravely wounded by a powerful Pokémon known as Mewtwo. Compelled by a desire to protect others and complete my Pokédex, I embarked on a journey to Cerulean Cave. The battle against Mewtwo was one of the most challenging encounters I’ve ever faced; its Psychic-type nearly defeated every one of my Pokémon. However, in my darkest hour, my loyal friend Charizard was there to fight by my side. Utilizing the might of Mega Evolution, Charizard managed to hold off Mewtwo, buying me the precious time I needed to capture this legendary creature.
Like Ash, Red Is Rarely Seen Without a Pikachu
Following the debut of the original Pokémon anime and the introduction of Ash and his trusted Pikachu, a game titled Pokémon Yellow emerged, featuring Red with a Pikachu instead of one of the common Kanto starter Pokémon. This game’s release started a pattern where Red’s teams in subsequent games always included a Pikachu. From Pokémon Crystal to Pokémon Moon, players encountered Red battling with his own Electric-type Pikachu, which proved to be one of the strongest Pokémon in his collection.
In the minor role it played in “Pokémon Origins”, Pikachu assumes a more significant position in the pilot episode of “Pokémon Generations”. Specifically, Red manages to catch a wild Pikachu and incorporates it into his team. From then on, Pikachu is rarely seen without its Trainer, accompanying him from Kanto to Kalos. By the conclusion of their adventure in the Kalos region, Pikachu has evolved into an exceptionally proficient battler, boasting a powerful Thunderbolt attack similar to Ash’s Pikachu.
The Flame Pokémon Soon Learned the Power of Mega Evolution
In contrast to Pikachu’s significant impact in the Pokemon games, Ash’s Pikachu plays a much larger role in the anime. However, for Red’s narrative, particularly in the Pokémon Origins, it’s his starter Pokémon, Charmander, that holds the most significance. Initially, both Red and Charmander grapple with adjusting to their new lives and understanding battles. Over time and with perseverance, Red learns to empathize with his Pokémon, leading to a stronger bond between them.
In the series, Charmander is often seen by Red’s side, having undergone training that enables it to evolve into a Charmeleon and eventually a Charizard. Like Red, Charizard still has much to discover about the world and battles, despite its increased strength. However, their bond remains unwavering, always watching each other’s back. In a later part of the miniseries, Charizard acquires a Charizardite X, utilizing this newfound power in a fierce battle against Mewtwo.
