Universal's Epic Universe Reportedly Opening Sooner Than Planned, Could Put Pressure On Disney

As a seasoned gamer and theme park enthusiast who has spent countless hours navigating the magical realms of Disney World and Universal Studios, I can confidently say that the impending arrival of Universal’s Epic Universe is causing a palpable ripple in the Orlando theme park landscape. Having traversed the enchanted lands of Hogwarts, battled bowser in Super Mario World, and soared through the skies on the back of a dragon, I can’t help but be intrigued by the prospect of these new themed lands coming to life at Epic Universe.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel the thrill in Orlando’s air – this city has been the epicenter of theme park rivalries for decades. For years, Disney reigned supreme, but now it seems like Universal might just take the lead. The rumors about their latest creation, Epic Universe, suggest an earlier-than-anticipated opening date. If the reports are true about the attractions they’ve got lined up, I can’t wait to see the crowds that might be drawn away from Disney World’s parks!

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, it appears that Epic Universe is set to debut earlier than anticipated, by Memorial Day 2025. To manage crowds effectively, Universal has plans to grant access only to visitors who have purchased multi-day passes for the park. This move may lead to a decrease in tourist spending at Disney World. A research firm, MoffettNathanson, predicts that Epic Universe could potentially draw around 1 million visitors from Disney’s parks, while boosting attendance at Universal’s other theme parks by more than 8 million in the years 2025 and 2026.

Disney is planning to construct and open a fifth theme park at Disney World in the future, but this is still some time away. Epic Universe, however, is expected to be ready sooner and will encompass themed areas such as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and Celestial Park.

This coming Saturday, October 19, Chris Hayner from TopMob will lead a discussion at New York Comic Con regarding the Universal Epic Universe. It’s anticipated that some exciting new announcements will be shared during this panel.
