Universal Unveils Plans for U.K. Theme Park and Resort

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intentions to construct the first theme park and resort in the United Kingdom. This ambitious project, slated to debut in 2031, is located south of Bedford, England, on a 476-acre plot of land acquired by Comcast in 2023. The development will showcase an innovative blend of immersive and exhilarating rides spread across multiple themed zones. Additionally, it will include a 500-room hotel, as well as shopping, dining, and entertainment facilities.

Mike Cavanagh, President of Comcast Corporation, marked a significant and groundbreaking moment for our company in its journey to expand our theme parks business. We are thrilled to be moving forward on this growth path and bringing joy to people worldwide. The exceptional talent at Universal Destinations & Experiences, with their unique storytelling abilities and technological advancements, aligns perfectly with the British arts and tourism sectors.

The project is still waiting for planning permission from the U.K. government, but we plan to submit a proposal within the next few months. Once it’s approved, construction on the Universal project will start in 2026.

Mark Woodbury, Universal Destinations & Experiences’ Chairman and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about extending the Universal brand to the UK, commenting that it’s another significant stride towards fostering future growth. Entering Europe offers us a tremendous chance to connect with new audiences and showcase the extraordinary experiences our team crafts,” he said.

In the latter half of 2025, Universal is set to debut its continuous horror-themed entertainment venture, Universal’s Horror Unleashed, right here in Las Vegas. Following this project’s completion, the family-friendly Universal Kids Resort will make its grand entrance in Frisco, Texas.
