Unique drive-thru-only McDonald’s Classic is being demolished

A distinctive McDonald’s restaurant, known for its unusual design, will soon be torn down and rebuilt with a more contemporary look. Plans for the demolition have been officially approved.

This McDonald’s restaurant at 359 Agler Road in Gahanna, Ohio, is unique because of its classic, old-fashioned design.

Okay, so this place is seriously cool looking. It’s got this huge, shiny gold arch going all around the building – super retro! Plus, they have one of those old-school roadside signs like you used to see everywhere, and a window where you walk up to order. Honestly, it feels like stepping back in time because most of their restaurants don’t look like this anymore.

So, I just heard some news that’s kinda bumming me out. That old diner we all loved? The Gahanna Planning Commission gave the okay to tear it down. They’re putting up a new McDonald’s in its place – one of those modern-looking ones, apparently.

People are noticing this change because the McDonald’s restaurant is thought to be one of the few remaining original, classic designs still in use.

Ohio McDonald’s Classic approved for demolition

Although the building now houses a McDonald’s – since 1994 – county records indicate it was originally built in 1969.

Planning documents show the replacement restaurant will be roughly twice the size of the existing building and will continue to focus primarily on drive-thru service. The new layout will include two ordering stations, two drive-thru windows, additional parking spaces, and a self-service pickup window designed mainly for delivery drivers.

Like the current location, the replacement restaurant will not include indoor dining.

The restaurant will get a new look on the outside. The large golden arches and old-fashioned style will be replaced with a more modern, darker design – the same style you now see at many McDonald’s restaurants around the country.

A website run by McDonald’s fans, called McDonald’s Wiki, suggests the Gahanna location could be the last original-style McDonald’s still open. However, McDonald’s itself hasn’t verified this information.

The McDonald’s in Gahanna is moving away from its classic style, and the company recently shared a completely new design for its restaurants of the future.

In June, the restaurant chain introduced a new design for its locations. The new concept includes features like walls made entirely of glass, more outdoor and indoor seating, convenient self-service pickup options, and a large PlayPlace area that can be added to existing restaurants during renovations.
