Unearthed Brie Larson video proves she’s the perfect Rosalina for Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Brie Larson playfully mentioned wanting to be in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but a recently discovered video shows she’s actually a pretty dedicated fan of the Super Mario Galaxy game.

Okay, so I’m really excited about this! Brie Larson is no stranger to big franchises – she was Captain Marvel, which was awesome. Now, she’s joining the Mario world! She’s going to voice Rosalina, who’s this really cool princess from space and basically a mom to these little star creatures called Lumas. It’s a pretty big jump from superheroes to space princesses, but I think she’ll be amazing!

Larson will be joining the voice cast of the new movie, alongside returning actors from 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.

Brie Larson recently told Fandango that the upcoming sequel expands on the possibilities of the original films. She’s particularly proud of it because she’s very familiar with the source material – the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy – and knows it inside and out, and her confidence is well-placed.

Rosalina star Brie Larson is a Super Mario Galaxy superfan

Larson is a huge Super Mario Galaxy fan—so much so that she actually broke up with her boyfriend when he told her she was too invested in the game. Seriously, that really happened!

In 2020, Larson started a YouTube channel where she discusses various topics. Her first video was a 22-minute Q&A session featuring questions from other content creators.

Swoozie was asked how she first got into gaming, and she explained it started with the original Nintendo and the first Super Mario game. The interviewer then asked if she had any funny or awkward stories about dates who weren’t fans of her gaming hobby.

Larson recounted a memorable breakup, explaining she kicked her ex-boyfriend out because she was intensely focused on finishing the last level of Super Mario Galaxy. He’d complained she was too invested in the game, which led to him being shown the door.

Whether you like celebrity casting or not, Larson definitely deserves her role in the new film. Plus, she’s a genuine fan of the character, Princess Rosalina, which she’s bringing to the performance.

During a recent interview with Fandango, the actress shared which hidden details, like a mention of the Honeyhive Galaxy, she found most thrilling.

Larson expressed delight at the appearance of a large honeybee as the final boss in the game, especially for fans of both the game and the theme of honeybees. She said seeing it made her laugh out loud, exclaiming, ‘Oh my god!’

She explained it was difficult to choose a single favorite moment, saying the movie felt like a wonderful rush of everything she’d ever enjoyed – all her favorite experiences and media, all rolled into one.

I felt overwhelmed by how many references were packed into every single scene. Everything seems to have a specific meaning or purpose, leaving no room for anything else.

These movies don’t just adapt the games—they build on them, adding depth to the story and finally answering questions fans have had for a long time. They really flesh out the world and connect loose ends.

I’m super hyped for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie – it’s hitting theaters on April 1, 2026! While we wait, I’ve been checking out a list of the best video game movies ever made, and I’m also revisiting all the Mario games in order. To keep track of everything else coming out, I’ve been looking at the 2026 movie release calendar too.
