As a passionate admirer of authentic and thought-provoking storytelling, I am thrilled to learn about “High Tide,” a poignant drama that sheds light on the experiences of undocumented immigrants in America. The film’s compelling narrative, which premiered at SXSW and is set for a theatrical release later this year, promises to be a moving exploration of connection, alienation, and uncertainty.
The drama movie titled “High Tide,” which focuses on the lives of undocumented immigrants in the United States, is scheduled for a theatrical debut in North America towards the end of this year.
At the latest SXSW film festival, Marco Calvani’s directing debut was showcased for the first time. Subsequently, LD Entertainment acquired the rights to distribute this movie through Strand Releasing.
I can relate to the story of a Brazilian immigrant, undocumented and heartbroken, spending one summer in the United States. Feeling lost and longing for connection, I found myself drawn to Provincetown, known as a haven for the queer community. There, I encountered an intriguing man who, much like me, appeared to feel the weight of alienation and uncertainty within this new land.
In the leading parts of this film are Brazilian actor Marco Pigossi (“Gen V”) and Emmy-nominated James Bland (“Giants”). Notable actors Marisa Tomei, a Oscar winner for “My Cousin Vinny,” Bill Irwin, a Tony award recipient for “Rachel Getting Married,” and Mya Taylor, an Independent Spirit Award winner for “Tangerine,” also make appearances in supporting roles.
Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon of LD Entertainment, together with Calvani, are the film’s producers. The rights to the film were acquired by Jon Gerrans from Strand Releasing, and Michael Glassman of LD Entertainment was involved in the deal as well.
“Marcus Hu from Strand Releasing praised the film as beautifully and emotionally conveying the experiences of undocumented immigrants trying to establish a presence here, facing numerous challenges,” said Calvani, who hails from Italy and boasts a diverse background in theatre and cinema.
As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for both independent and international cinema, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering some truly exceptional works over the years. One director who has left a lasting impression on me is Calvani, an artist whose unique storytelling ability and knack for assembling remarkable casts have made him a standout figure in contemporary filmmaking.
Led by Liddell and Shilaimon, LD Entertainment functions as an autonomous production company that funds and creates sophisticated films, television series, and live stage productions. Their portfolio includes forty movies such as “Judy,” “Jackie,” “Ben Is Back,” “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” and the Oscar-nominated “Biutiful.” Following the premiere of “National Anthem,” their latest theatrical offering is “High Tide.”
