‘Underdog’ CG Series Reboot Begins Production at Superprod Animation, Red Monk Studio (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie buff with decades of cartoon-watching under my belt, I must say, the reboot of “Underdog” has me barking with excitement! Growing up, this clumsy but courageous superhero was a staple in our living room, leaping through the airwaves on NBC, CBS, and Nickelodeon. The news that it’s making a comeback, modernized yet maintaining its timeless essence, has filled my heart with pure joy.

Superprod Animation, along with its partner Red Monk Studio from Milan, have begun creating their latest CG-animated show titled “Underdog.” This series is a fresh take on the popular 1959 animated franchise. The production of this series was approved by M6 and Gulli in France, as well as RAI in Italy.

Fans of the classic 1960s “Underdog” series, which aired on networks like NBC, CBS, and Nickelodeon for many years, will find this updated version reminiscent of the original they’ve grown to love.

52 eleven-minute episodes of a revamped series titled “Underdog” are being produced by Superprod and Red Monk. This new show is designed for young viewers and families, focusing on the humorous adventures of Underdog, a bumbling yet benevolent superhero donning an oversized suit and cape, as he takes on crime-fighting tasks. The updated series will maintain elements of its original charm, emphasizing values like teamwork, bravery, and resilience. Production is set to take place at Superprod Group’s studios located in France and Italy.

The “Underdog” reboot is being created for television with animation veterans Matt Smith (“Captain Underpants: The Epic Tales,” “The Croods”) and Shane Morris (“Frozen,” “Wreck-it-Ralph”) overseeing the story. They will act as story editors for the series. The episodes are being helmed by Charles Vaucelle, renowned for his work on hit animated shows like “Pat the Dog,” “Oggy and the Cockroaches,” “The Daltons,” and “Lucky Luke.

Superprod Group co-founders Jérémie Fajner and Clément Calvet express delight in reviving ‘Underdog’ for a new audience, stating, ‘It’s a fantastic chance, and with our top-notch team, we’re excited to announce, ‘Don’t Worry; Underdog is Back!’

In response, Gulli President Philippe Bony expressed his joy about this fresh partnership with Superprod and Charles Vaucelle, having previously collaborated on ‘Dogmatix’ and ‘The Indomitables.’ He described Underdog as a tender, awkward yet brave hero, which perfectly fits the kind of characters we admire.

The series titled “Underdog” is set to debut on French channels M6 and Gulli, as well as Italian channel RAI in the year 2025. Superights, an offshoot of Superprod Group responsible for international sales, will oversee global distribution for this show.
