However, if it does, I feel it offers a fitting resolution to this series.
In a nod to its predecessors, particularly the earlier films in the series, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has received generally positive reviews. Critic Mary Kassel of Ebaster gave it an 8 out of 10. Key elements from previous movies such as the appearance of William Donloe from the first Mission: Impossible and the explanation behind the Rabbit’s Foot from Mission: Impossible III, are incorporated into this installment. Interestingly, there was almost a post-credits scene included that could have hinted at future movies in the franchise. In essence, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning serves as a concluding chapter while subtly leaving room for potential sequels.

It’s interesting to note that despite Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning appearing to be the conclusion of the franchise, director Christopher McQuarrie had initially intended to film a post-credits scene for the movie. In an interview with USA Today, McQuarrie explained that they had planned to include a “coda” in the film. However, before shooting this additional scene, McQuarrie showed Tom Cruise the final ten minutes of Mission: Impossible 8. During the interview, McQuarrie opted to keep secret the details of the post-credits scene, implying that it might be saved for a potential future film in the Mission: Impossible series. This is why the film includes numerous flashbacks to reinforce these connections.
As a movie reviewer, I must admit that it’s no shocker that none of the other Mission: Impossible films have featured a post-credits scene. You see, many of these movies were released back when such scenes weren’t as common in major blockbusters as they are today. It wasn’t until comic book movies started to dominate the box office that we began to see these fun little extras at the end of films. Even this year’s original blockbuster, Sinners, included one. Yet, against the tide, the Mission: Impossible franchise has remained steadfast in its decision not to jump on this bandwagon.
What Could Have Been The Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Post-Credits Scene?
Did It Leave The Door Open For Tom Cruise’s Return?
Impossible – The Final Reckoning” could have hinted at, but it probably would have indicated that Tom Cruise will reappear in a future Mission: Impossible film. Since most of the cast for Mission: Impossible 8 are expecting Cruise to return to the series eventually, this post-credits sequence might have given viewers peace of mind knowing that Ethan Hunt’s story isn’t over yet. Given Tom Cruise’s affection for the franchise, I, personally, would be delighted if he made another Mission: Impossible movie in the near future.
Given that the Entity posed such an immense danger in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” it might prove challenging for a future film to escalate the tension further. Consequently, one could speculate that the post-credits scene may have paved the way for a soft reboot of the franchise, suggesting potential candidates to take over from Ethan Hunt. While this is rather improbable, it’s certainly intriguing to muse about the possibilities and imagine the post-credits scene we almost witnessed in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
