UCP Acquires Rights to Katie Cotugno Novel ‘Heavy Hitter’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a voracious reader who has devoured countless novels by prolific authors, I can confidently say that Katie Cotugno‘s latest work, “Heavy Hitter,” is one that promises to captivate audiences with its compelling narrative and intriguing characters. With more than a dozen books under her belt, including the critically acclaimed “Liar’s Beach” and “You Say It First,” it’s no surprise that this talented writer has once again crafted a story that resonates deeply.

UCP is set to adapt Katie Cotugno’s novel “Heavy Hitter” into a television show, according to exclusive information obtained by EbMaster.

The official description of the novel states:

‘Heavy Hitter’ explores the life of Lacey Logan, a chart-topping superstar whose fame has left her feeling lost in her own story. To preserve her privacy, Lacey carefully manages her image, revealing only what she chooses to share with fans and photographers. However, when Lacey learns that her boyfriend is concealing two shocking truths – a cocaine addiction and another girlfriend who’s pregnant – her self-assurance crumbles, and she struggles to maintain control over her narrative. That all changes when Jimmy Hodges, an ex-baseball star known for his broad shoulders, enters the bar where Lacey is confiding in a friend. Sporting a shaggy beard and casual button-down, Jimmy is the antithesis of the polished suitor Lacey envisions. As sparks ignite between them, Lacey finds herself casting aside reservations and taking risks. Despite their contrasting personalities, Lacey and Jimmy could be each other’s destiny in a love story that transcends expectations.

No writer or network/streaming service is currently attached to the project.

Cotugno expressed great excitement about working alongside the UCP team to bring ‘Heavy Hitter’ to life. He mentioned that from their initial discussion, a strong collaborative creative energy was palpable.

Published in August 2024, “Heavy Hitter” marks Cotugno’s latest novel. To date, she has published over a dozen novels, with previous works such as “Liar’s Beach,” “You Say It First,” “Meet the Benedettos,” and “Birds of California.” Represented by WME and Sterling Lord Literistic, Inc., Cotugno is a prolific author in the literary world.

Currently, UCP’s lineup features shows such as “The Umbrella Academy,” which recently concluded its final season on Netflix, the prequel to “Ted” airing on Peacock, “Resident Alien,” previously from USA Network (now at Syfy), “Chucky,” currently on Syfy, and “Based on a True Story” on Peacock.
