Ubisoft Shuts Down Rainbow Six Siege Servers After Hack

Unfortunately, hacking is common in online gaming. Recently, on Saturday, December 27th, the game Rainbow Six Siege X was hit by a significant security breach.

Starting yesterday morning, players worldwide began reporting strange issues with the game. Some unexpectedly received rare items, while others saw their in-game money increase dramatically, reaching amounts worth thousands of dollars.

Players were shocked to find unexpected items in the game, and many were unfairly banned, which created panic and confusion within the game’s worldwide community.

The recent hack affected Rainbow Six Siege across all platforms – PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Players experienced issues with logging in, finding matches, and accessing the in-game store, indicating problems with essential game services.

Understandably, things quickly became chaotic after the sudden incident. This forced Ubisoft to temporarily shut down its servers worldwide to investigate and fix the problem.

Ubisoft Investigates as Global Servers Remain Offline

Ubisoft is using social media to share updates as they investigate the issue. With the game servers currently offline and no clear estimate for when they’ll be back up, the company is working quickly to fix things.

Ubisoft previously announced they temporarily took Rainbow Six Siege and its Marketplace offline so their team could fix a problem. They also promised players wouldn’t be penalized if they accidentally used the incorrect credits that appeared during the issue.

All purchases made since the security issue started will ultimately be cancelled. The company confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that no one will be penalized for using credits they’ve earned, and a full reversal of all transactions from 11 AM UTC onward is currently being processed.

Players saw the value of their in-game money suddenly increase to the equivalent of thousands of real dollars.

The developers confirmed that a recent ban wave in Rainbow Six Siege, called R6 ShieldGuard, happened around the same time as the hack, but it wasn’t caused by it. Players don’t need to worry about the ban wave being connected to the security issue.

As a huge fan, it’s good to hear the team is working tirelessly to get everything fixed so we can all play again! The latest news says they’re still digging deep to get everything working perfectly, which is understandable, but I really wish we had some idea of when that might be.

According to their latest post on X, a fix is currently being implemented. After that, they’ll run thorough tests to make sure accounts are safe and the changes work as expected. The team is working hard to get players back in the game quickly, but they’re being very careful, so they can’t say exactly when things will be back to normal.
