Ubisoft Shows It Hasn’t Totally Forgotten About Splinter Cell

About a dozen years following its initial release, Splinter Cell: Blacklist now offers Steam achievements. Ubisoft has implemented this feature in the stealth game, indicating that these achievements will be active for players, even going back to previous gameplay sessions.

On Steam, they announced the removal of 19 achievements tied to online services that are no longer operational for the game. Consequently, players can still achieve a full completion of Splinter Cell: Blacklist, a title released on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U back in August 2013, including its version for Nintendo’s console.

Ubisoft Toronto is responsible for resurrecting the franchise, having also developed Blacklist and 2021’s Far Cry 6. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Splinter Cell in 2022, they unveiled a few updates about the reboot, including concept art and new enemy AI behaviors. Since then, information has been scarce. Gabe Gurwin, an ardent fan of the franchise from TopMob, recently listed his expectations for the Splinter Cell remake.

Initially, a virtual reality game titled Splinter Cell was under development, but that project was scrapped in 2022. However, an audio series for Splinter Cell with eight episodes did release the same year. Moreover, within the free-to-play shooter XDefiant, a Splinter Cell faction existed, but it is scheduled to close down in June.

Last year, a movie adaptation of the Splinter Cell game featuring Tom Hardy as Sam Fisher was unfortunately scrapped. However, the stealth franchise is still making its way to our screens, albeit on TV this time. A Netflix series titled Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is in the works, with Liev Schreiber taking on the role of Sam Fisher instead of Michael Ironside providing the voice.
