All signs point to Ubisoft developing a new battle royale, currently known as Scout.
- The game is said to be heavily inspired by Apex Legends, to the extent that graphics from Respawn Entertainment‘s game were used as the project’s icon in the early stages of development.
- In Scout, we will find characters partially modeled on heroes such as Pathfinder, Wraith, or Lifeline from Apex Legends.
- The production process was supposed to start a few years ago.
One rationale behind the ongoing advancement of the game is that the popularity of Apex Legends has started to decrease lately, and Ubisoft aims to leverage this decline with Scout.
Good idea?
Ubisoft hasn’t had much success with battle royale games in the past. For instance, Hyper Scape servers were closed just about two years after its launch, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Frontline was scrapped during testing. However, they are giving it another go, hoping that their third attempt will be a charm.
It appears that Apex Legends has been experiencing a dip in popularity recently. On Steam alone, the game has seen a 50% decrease in players over the past year, leaving some wondering if Ubisoft can capitalize on this trend. However, despite certain challenges, Apex Legends remains a formidable presence. Electronic Arts (EA) is currently working on a significant overhaul for the game, which they refer to as “Apex 2.0.”
