Ubisoft had a tough year, but is pleased with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows release. Company hopes for a new opening thanks to its partnership with Tencent

For the fiscal year spanning from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, Ubisoft reported a total revenue of approximately 1.9 billion euros – a 17.5% decrease compared to the previous fiscal year. Despite this dip, the company appears content with their results, stating that the decline was “slightly less than projected” and attributing it mainly to partnerships that did not perform as well as anticipated, particularly due to extended timelines.

The majority of that sum primarily stems from game sales, additional content, subscriptions, and digital goods. To be precise, it amounts to approximately 1.85 billion euros, which represents a 20.5% decrease in comparison to the previous year.

  1. It’s important to note that 85.9% of this amount came from digital goods, which is about 1.59 billion euros. In the previous 12 months, it was 85.6%. Also, a whopping 70.2% (around 1.3 billion euros) were products from the “back catalog,” meaning they were released in previous years, including games like Rainbow Six: Siege, The Crew: Motorfest, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
  2. For comparison: in the fiscal year 2023-2024, they constituted “only” 64.5% of the total revenue, which, let’s remind, was 17.5% higher than the one generated in the year 2024-2025.

Successful Assassin’s Creed: Shadows release

It’s worth mentioning that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, a game Ubisoft had high expectations for, was launched on March 20th. Within a week of its release, it managed to attract 3 million players. However, this figure encompasses Ubisoft+ subscribers, implying that the sales figures are not entirely accurate. The pre-orders for the game in February ranked second highest in the series’ history at that time, trailing behind AC: Odyssey. It can be presumed that today’s financial report does not fully convey the influence of AC: Shadows on Ubisoft; its true impact will only become evident in the upcoming months.

It appears that the French corporation is delighted with the debut of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. As it turns out, the game has received rave reviews from players and performed well, noticeably surpassing Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. This underscores the robustness of the brand. However, it’s worth noting that the initial sales were lower than those of AC: Valhalla, but still impressive considering the competition.

According to Ubisoft, the game Assassin’s Creed: Shadows boasts an average player rating of approximately 91/100 across all major platforms. Players have collectively spent over 160 million hours immersed in this game, a testament to its captivating gameplay and the enduring popularity of the series.

New chapter for Ubisoft

The report further highlighted Ubisoft’s ongoing change, spearheaded by a significant investment from Tencent as a strategic ally. This deal is expected to close by year-end, paving the way for the unveiling of the new company structure, and crucially, wrapping up the current financial year in the black. The cost savings generated through restructuring are crucial in this context. Over the next two years, the company aims to slash costs by approximately 110 million euros, with a focus on open-world action-adventure games and games-as-a-service offerings.
